Small Business Marketing Strategy - 8 Steps To A Successful Marketing Strategy

Entrepreneur-a person who organizes and manages any enterprise, especially a business, usually with considerable initiative and risk.

You're an entrepreneur, one of the few who are willing to venture out and take the risks, and hopefully reap the rewards of your blood, sweat, and tears. But that can be a little tough in today's economy. With all the talk of fiscal cliffs, taxes, unemployment, bubbles popping, it can be nerve racking, and having you question whether or not you can make it.

Well whether or not you make it, is up to you. But it boils down to one thing, can you market to your potential customers, and prove you provide a quality product or service that they will benefit from.

If you can follow these 8 steps for a successful marketing strategy; you will have the information necessary to succeed.

Step 1-Defining Your Product or Service

How is are you packaging your product or service? Is it clear what your customer is purchasing? These are questions you should be asking to determine if you have prepared the product or service in a marketable way. You don't want the customers thinking they are buying a mystery box.

Step 2-Identifying Your Target Market

Make sure that your campaign is focusing on your target market. You don't want to own a yard and lawn business and be promoting to people who are renting apartments. As they don't own the property and lawn care is not their worry. That would be a waste of your time and money.

Step 3-Knowing Your Competition

The business world is constantly changing. New competitors are going to enter the market, old ones are going to fall out. They require you to be constantly changing and promoting in different ways. Just because something works today does not mean it is going to work tomorrow. So you need to be constantly keeping an eye on your competition and seeing what they are doing, and what is working for them. Maybe even look at competitors in a different state, that you are not competing with to see what they are doing. You can never have too many ideas about your next action plan.

Step 4-Building Credibility

You need to make sure that the customers know what they are getting. You want to give them an experience they can brag about, because word of mouth is the greatest form of promotion you can get. Consider Uber, a car service that enlists professional drivers to get you from point A to B. On Presidents day, they employ a limo, and 2 SUVs, one in front, and one in the back, and chauffeur you to where you go, President Style. It is an experience they won't forget and will be bragging about it to their friends.

I agree that the economy is tough right now and I would add that is isn't the main issue, but getting stuck in a comfortable place and not creating creative marketing strategies.
