Tips for Stress - Free Long Distance Moving In Los Angeles

For most people, long-distance moving can be accompanied by unfortunate hassles. The circumstances surrounding the move can range from joyful to mournful, but the process of moving is almost always stressful, challenging, and potentially dangerous. The physical and emotional risk when moving a long distance can be minimized by doing your research, and making sure to be cognizant of these possible stressors.

One aspect of moving that can be most stressful is filling out the multitude of paperwork that comes with it. Whether it be visas, permits, IRS forms, or mail forwarding services, the amount of time it takes to fill out these forms can feel overwhelming. The two main concerns when moving long distance is that these important documents are 1) filled out right and 2) accessible. There’s no worse feeling than thinking you’ve covered all your bases and realizing somebody forgot to “sign here” after it’s too late. Make sure that you are working with a company that will help you fill out the right paperwork, and be sure to keep it handy in case you need to find it down the road.

Another large concern for most people when moving long distances is the safety of their most personal belongings. Incorrect moving procedures can result in a myriad of problems from damaged goods to moving delays. Make sure that you either pack your boxes using the correct technique (leaving no extra wiggle room or space) or that you employ a professional moving service that will treat your belongings like their own. If you have larger items, double check that the moving company has trucks that are large enough to hold your items securely, and be sure that proper procedures are put in place so that these items don’t move around too much during the move.

The third concern for people moving long distances is whether they have the ability to store their larger belongings or not. For some, moving across the country or internationally doesn’t mean a change in the size of their business or home, but for many, that is not the case. When finding a storage unit, there are two basic questions that need to be asked. The first is simple: will your belongings be secure from intruders? Verify how secure your property will be by inquiring if there is 24-hour security presence, and if cameras or an actual person secures the lot. The second question is one that many forget, but it is just as crucial. Will my belongings be safe inside the storage unit from potential pests, rust, or mold? Ask what measures are being taken to ensure your items’ safety and quality while they are being stored.

The final avoidable hassle accompanying long distance moves involves getting an accurate price quote. Companies can overcharge, ask for a different price once the work is complete, or simply just give incorrect quotes. Read the fine print, and take the time to discuss quotes thoroughly before signing your name by the “X”, if the company you’re using doesn’t take the time to go through all of this with you already.

Finding a good long moving company takes a little time and effort, but you will quickly learn the difference between exceptional and mediocre service by keeping these tips in mind.
