Asian Qualifiers: Take it all or crash and burn

A tremendous day of qualifying will be played on 29 February, when the Asian teams are facing off in the last date of the third stage. Group A is already defined. Jordan and Iraq will advance to the next stage. The surprise in this group was undoubtedly the elimination of China PR. Jordan’s historic advance to the fourth round of the Asian Zone has captured the imagination of the country’s football fans. On the other hand, Brazil legend Zico, the coach of Iraq, has also captured all fans of Iraq and says that Iraq is ready to beat anyone.

In group B, three teams will fight for two places: South Korea, Lebanon, and Kuwait. South Korea will face Kuwait in the freezing Seoul and a draw will put them in the next stage. Influential midfielder Akram Moghrabi talks to FIFA, and says Lebanon has the spirit and can do the job.

Group C is also defined. Japan and Uzbekistan, who did an excellent job, will advance to the next stage. Server Djeparov, the Uzbekistan playmaker and the AFC Player of the Year, believes now is the time for the White Wolves to make history and qualify for their first FIFA World Cup.

Group D is fascinating. Australia is already classified, and Saudi Arabia, Oman and Thailand will fight for second place. Australia faces in Melbourne to Saudia Arabia, the second in the group, and Thailandia will visit to Oman in Muscat. Thailand coach Winfried Schafer has called for focus ahead of a crucial match against Oman to qualify for the fourth and final round. "We should enter the match with our best shape and play with a big heart". A victory away to Oman can place them in the next stage. Hope Thailand is more alive than ever.Saudis, on the other hand, Saudis and Dutchman Frank Rijkaard need to win to guarantee progress.

Finally in Group E, Iran is already classified, and Qatar and Bahrain will fight for second place. Qatar, with 3 points ahead of Bahrain, will travel to Tehran to face Iran. Qatar certainly has serious problems. Sebastiao Lazaroni has been sacked as coach of Qatar following the nation's group stage elimination at the Arab Games.Qatar needs only a draw, but the task will not be easy in Iran. Bahrain, on the other hand, lie third behind Iran and Qatar. Peter Taylor, their coach, says they have a mountain to climb. Their final game at home to Indonesia is an important match for Bahrain. If they want to advance to the next stage, they must win by a wide margin and should expect Iran beat Qatar also by a sizeable margin.
