In the wake of the 23rd anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster, where 96 Liverpool fans tragically lost their lives, the club has had a rather hectic week. First there was the game at Ewood Park against relegation-threatened Blackburn Rovers. Kenny Dalglish rested a few of the key players for this coming Saturdays FA Cup Semi-Final against Everton. The game started with Liverpool getting 2 quick goals via Maxi, but then to my surprise the standby goalkeeper, Alexander Doni, got sent-off for a foul on Junior Hoilett. On came Brad Jones for his first Premier League game in 3 years, and his first act was to save Yakubu horribly taken penalty kick.
So okay Liverpool were still leading two-nil before, Yakubu eventually got a goal before half-time to set up a tense second half. And Blackburn came out fighting in the second half eventually earning another penalty after, Brad Jones fouled Yakubu in the box, Yakubu made no mistake the second time around. It looked like Liverpool were heading for another draw in a game they started out controlling, but in the dying minutes of the match, Andy Carroll stepped up and scored Liverpool's winner.
10-men Liverpool managed to get a win and showed the determination that we have not seen for most of the season. So now we are thinking bring on Everton at Wembley, then comes the news that the Director of Football Damien Comolli has left the club mutual consent. Not something that should affect the players ahead of the game on Saturday, but already questions are arising, was Comolli the one behind the average signings that Liverpool made during the pre-season that basically setup the poor performances we seen in the 2011/2012 Barclay's Premier League.
To be honest, one could not really say that the Director of Football or the Manager for that matter is to blame for the poor league campaign. Comolli has already stated on the clubs website that he is leaving due to family reasons, but already the media in the United Kingdom are questioning the turn of events. As always they are trying to find a scape goat when in fact the real reason the team have had a bad season was simply down to a couple of things, bad luck, bad referring and poor finishing, which could be blamed on the team.
Therefore the reason Comolli resigned, could indeed be as the man has said, family reasons. However as always the British media is on a witch-hunt to find someone to blame. So let me clear it up once again, Liverpool's poor league form is can not blamed on management, the project of rebuilding the team is still in its infancy, it takes time to build a championship winning team. Look at teams like Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona, they did not start winning major trophies immediately. Liverpool with a new team, not squad, have already bagged one trophy and could also bag the FA Cup, so declaring the season as a waste would be very silly.
In conclusion, I again will say, lets give the King time to repair and rebuild and do not listen to the British media, because they sell papers by twisting stories around. And to Damien Comolli, thanks and good luck with your future projects. Good luck team with Saturdays. You will never walk Alone.
