Want to know how to kick a soccer ball with power? To do this we need to start with we need to understand the mechanics of the shot, types of kicks, the best spot of the foot to strike the ball with as well as the ball itself. Let me explain what I mean.

If you want to know how to kick a soccer ball with power, lets start with the four parts of the foot we use to kick a soccer ball and what we can expect from striking the ball with each. First we have the inside of the foot, striking the ball here will send the ball across your body and can be used for a pass of medium distance. Striking the ball with the outside of your foot will send the ball out and away from your body and is used for short to medium passes. The laces on your shoe is where we can start to put some power behind the kick. Striking the ball on the top of your foot (laces) will sent the ball directly in front of you and can be used for short to long passes or shots. The SWEET spot on your foot is where the power is, the sweet spot is the knuckle of your big toe. Striking on the sweet spot will give you the most power.

The next concept on how to kick a soccer ball with power is the ball itself. The ball can be broken down into five parts. All five areas will react to being struck in a different way. The five areas of the ball are the right side and when struck there will send the ball to the left. The left side will send it to the right. The top will cause the ball to stay low, and striking on the bottom of the ball will cause the ball to rise. For the most power in a shot you want to strike the ball in the middle, also known as the sweet spot of the ball.

Now we have the break down of the foot and the ball, lets look at what we need to know about how to kick a soccer ball with power as it relates to the kick itself. A power kick will always start with the PLANT foot (the non kicking foot), Your plant foot should be "planted" even with the ball and pointed in the direction you want the ball to travel. Your body should be at a slight angle to the ball. Now your kicking leg should be bent in a V shape and stay in that position until impact on the ball. Make sure that the impact with the ball is on the sweet spot of your foot and the sweet spot of the ball. Your head should remain down and eyes focused on the strike point of the ball. Follow through by stepping forward toward the area you kicked to.

So we covered the basics of how to kick a soccer ball with power by breaking the foot in to four areas, the ball into five parts and the Plant foot and its postion during a kick. When the sweet spot on the ball meets with the sweet spot on your foot is where you will find the most power. With the power in your shot, you can begin to learn how to curve the ball.
