How To Play Soccer

Soccer is one of the most popular sports in the world, for good reason. First, anyone can play! Boys, Girls, young and old. Soccer can be played on a soccer field or football field or an empty field, just about anywhere. It can even be played indoors. It can be played with any number of players from the traditional 11 man team to the beginner 3 man team. All you need is a ball and some goals. I'll try to explain soccer in its simplest forms.

The first thing I want to tell you about how to play soccer is it is played with your feet! The only player that can touch the ball with his hands while the ball is in play is the Goalie( if the ball goes out-of-bounds, a player can trow it in. other than that no hands.). There are goals at either end of the field. In front of the goal are two boxes. Inside these boxes, the Goalie can pick up the ball and throw it or punt it to get it away from his goal. Outside of these boxes, even the Goalie has to use only his feet.

The next thing you need to know how to play soccer is the Defenders. The Defenders play in front of the Goalie. There job is to keep the ball from getting to the Goalie. They play from the goal line out to what is called the midfield line. The midfield line is just that. The line in the middle of the field that extends from sideline to side line. In front of the Defenders are players that are called Midfielders.

Midfielders cover a great deal of the field. They are the transition players. Sometimes they are on the defensive side of the filed and sometimes they are on the offensive side of the field. Their job is to receive the ball from the defense and move it up the field to the offensive end. When players are just learning to how to play soccer the midfield position is the toughest to play, because they do the most running and usually run the entire time they are in the game.

Next we have the Forwards, the Forwards are on the offensive side of the field. Their job is to try to get past the opponents defenders and shoot the ball a the opponent's goal. They play in the offensive zone from the midfield line to the opponent's goal line.

Now of course there are many rules involved in the game of soccer, but this is the basics that you need to know to get started. You have the field, the players and a brief description of how the players interact with each other. I hope this helped and that you learn How to play soccer. Rules for the game of soccer can be found by searching the FIFA website.
