So why would I write an article about the hypocrisy of the English Football Association, the soccer governing body, of one of the most famous and popular Soccer Nations in the world. Well in light of the recent news that the pre-match handshake gestures have once again been abandoned for the game between Chelsea and Queens Park Rangers, I have concluded that the English Football Association are hypocrites who only seek to protect the well-being of English-born players.
In a year when racism has shown its ugly head to many times on the soccer scene, a player like Luis Suarez received an 8 match ban, after he had apparently racially abused Patrice Evra of Manchester United football club. So Suarez got his punishment and took it like a man, however on his return from suspension the Football Association allowed more controversy was added to whole matter, the first game between Liverpool and Manchester United, after that decision, was at Old Trafford with Suarez returning from his ban.
Now the custom with the pre-game handshakes, is that the home team walks towards the away team as a sign of welcoming them, but instead the match at Old Trafford, which is the home-ground of Manchester United, the Liverpool team had to walk towards the Manchester United players, now when Suarez walked past Evra it appeared that Suarez did not want to shake hands with Evra. As a result the British media were in an uproar over this situation, and once again the "Witch-Hunters" were on Luis Suarez's case.
Now similar to the Suarez-Evra scenario, two english born players, John Terry and Anton Ferdinand had a racism issue as well in the early stages of the Premier League campaign, so how did the Football Association respond to this, well simple, since John Terry is the former England captain, it would appear that the Football Association turned a blind eye to that particular scenario, as yet Terry has not been punishment for the remarks he has made towards Ferdinand, and to further prevent the situation to escalate, every-time Queens Park Rangers play Chelsea, the Football Association abandons the pre-match handshakes.
The first time the two sides met after the racism allegations was in the Football Associations Challenge Cup, and before the game, there were no handshakes. The two teams are playing each other once more now, and again the handshakes got cancelled. To me the Football Association appear to show favouritism towards English-born players and are unwilling to show fairness and equality to players from other countries, which could qualify as a major sign of hypocrisy.
