Three Reasons You Should Coach Your Own Soccer Team

I'm Adam, and I'm a soccer player, coach, trainer, and referee. I know that the thought of coaching your own soccer team can be daunting: lots of paperwork, lots of travel, and fussy parents are just a few of the not-so-fun things a coach has to deal with.

But the benefits of coaching far outweigh these potential costs. Coaching your own soccer team is a way to bond with your family, make friends, and learn more about the beautiful game. With the spring season around the corner, now is the perfect time to consider taking up the coaching mantle yourself.

If you're still not convinced, here are my top three reasons why coaching your own soccer team is one of the most rewarding things you can do with your time.

Make New Friends

Not only is coaching a team a great way for your children to make friends, but you can make your own friends too! Coaching a team will require lots of social interaction, whether it's between you and your players or you and their parents. Coaching their kids is a great way to make friends for yourself, especially if you recently moved into a new area and want to get your kids involved in soccer.

Coaching also allows your kids to make new friends. They'll have teammates that they will play and practice soccer with every week of the season, and the bonds they forge on the field will translate off the field too. Some of my closest friends were made on the soccer field, and it creates a bond that's unlike any other. Again, if your family recently moved to a new neighborhood, starting up a soccer team is a fantastic way to meet new people and make friends.

Spend Time With Family

Coaching a soccer team will create a lot of family time, whether it's schlepping from field to field for the games, team practices every week, or indoor tournaments that take up the whole weekend. Now I know the thought of even more family time around the holidays may seem overwhelming, but soccer offers a routine of weekly games and practices that everyone in the family can be a part of.

Learn About Soccer

It's been said that the best way to learn is to do, and that definitely applies to coaching soccer. There is no better way to learn about soccer tactics, strategies, and skills than by trying to teach others. Part of why I've gotten myself so involved in so many aspects of the game is so I can learn more about it. I learned things coaching and training that I never would have learned as a player. You will undoubtedly gain more of an appreciation for the subtleties of the game and how the professionals play it when you decide to coach your own team.

So those are my top three reasons for coaching your own soccer team. I think coaching is one of the most rewarding experiences that you can give yourself in your life; you'll get to watch your kids grow from little pee-wees blindly chasing the ball into skilled, mature players with a solid understanding of the game. Who knows, maybe they'll even net a scholarship!

If you found this helpful, you'll definitely want to learn more about other soccer training stuff from my site. In addition to coaching tips, I've also done some product reviews to get you started in stocking up your coach's bag for the spring season. Thanks for reading, and have a great day!
