So on Sunday the first of April, Liverpool were defeated by Newcastle United, another league game gone by and more upset fans around the world. Going over many of the articles, I have seen many fans calling for the sacking of the manager. On many websites under the gossip column you have stories about Fenway Sports Group apparently demanding a written report from Kenny Dalglish on why the clubs league form has been so poor.
However, and this is what angers me, these same tabloids and fans were signing Kenny's name almost a year ago when he returned and changed the fortunes of a very average looking Liverpool side, and to be honest what he did towards the end of last season was remarkable, but lets be honest, Liverpool's run in the league then was more of an over-achievement than an actual success.
Kenny Dalglish only inspired that team to play better and with more courage and the rest followed. Now what surprises me is that this season he has actually started the rebuilding process, for many people because of last seasons over-achievement, the expectation was there that Liverpool would improve even more. At the beginning of the season my expectation personally was to at least win a trophy, which Liverpool have not done since 2006.
The signings the coach made have not had the impact that many fans expected, but there have been signs and countless games where, if luck and finishing was better, Liverpool would have won the games easily. Now the last few games have not been what fans would have wanted, but there is a certainly anyone can assess why, the coach is trying to play his style which is a four four two system, a style which Liverpool have not really used since the Houllier era, and even then the style was improperly used.
For me the only two signings that really are not worthwhile, is probably Andy Carroll and Stewart Downing, Downing can maybe still come good, because in some of the cup this season he has been exceptional. As for Andy Carroll, I just think the guy's attitude is totally wrong, like on Sunday when he got subbed, he wasn't really doing anything on the pitch except complain( as usual), then he had the nerve to throw a tantrum when he was replaced by Kuyt.
Many fans will take this post as me trying to defend the coach, but to be honest, and I encourage those who read this post to leave comments on my post, the coach is not the problem, what he has inherited is. And many people will talk about his signings (which most of the media are using as a platform to blast him), but remember how was he to know that some of these guys wouldn't come good ? Last year the British media labelled Carroll as the English answer to "Drogba", has he proved to be that yet, NO, so is this the coach's fault ?
I am honestly very upset and angered with all the posts and rantings that I see on the web calling for Dalglish to quit. Honestly the man hasn't even had enough time to build up his squad and get rid of the guys that just aren't doing it for LFC anymore, and already the haters and boo-boys have returned.
If someone at FSG should read this post, I encourage them please stick to your plan, keeping finding the young talent out there and give the coach the time he needs to rebuild this team, fans like myself and many others out there believe that in time he will come good, he has already landed LFC their first trophy in 6 years, and for me trophies are more important than just getting into the Champions League, which seems to be all that most fans care about now.
In King Kenny I believe and in a few years Liverpool Football Club will bear the fruits.
