So my goal for the near future is to land enough clients that pay me to help them with their Social Media Marketing efforts. Since I do not have a client base yet, I figured that showing possible clients what I have done for other companies and proving my expertise in the field, it will be easier land new clients and grow my portfolio as a Social Media Manager. So in this and upcoming articles I want to document the steps I am taking to promote the company I work for, which is a medium sized insurance brokering firm in Chicago.
Now, we have a vision here for the company that will cover Social Media Marketing, QR codes, SMS marketing, Email Marketing, and all major social media sites. We want to brand ourselves and make this company the one stop for all our clients insurance needs (as long as they live in Illinois, Texas, Wisconsin and Indiana). So the first thing I did is a Facebook Fan Page.
Creating a Facebook Fan Page
I created a Facebook Fan Page for the business, easy and simple enough. I worked on the profile pic from logos we already had using Gimp 2.8. Simple little tool that had saved my life as far as creating nice looking banners and graphics many times.
So I added an content in the About and Company Description places in the profile. What I did is add a link to the website (which is being built as we speak) from our Facebook profile that is right there and visible for anyone to click on it. Added some pictures with content about them to engage our fans, hopefully!
Creating a Twitter Profile
I also went ahead and created a Twitter profile for the company. Super easy task that does not need anything else but common sense. So far at least nothing complicated. Then I linked the Facebook and Twitter accounts together, this way when I post something on Twitter it will show on Facebook as well. I am sure you knew all this too, didn't you?
Anyhow, now I have a Facebook and a Twitter with some followers and likes and this is the end of the first week.
What I am doing right now is trying for all the employees to Like the page and spread the word out. I have found that they have been hesitant to Like the page because they do not want to be linked to their work place. Which is weird to me since liking the page won't make them interact with the company directly or expose much of their information to the bosses. Funny!
I will take the time of speaking to them and explain how it works.
So, for me it is working perfectly because I am helping the company I work for with Social Media (something that I like) and I am also building my portfolio and expertise.
Interesting take! I like your initiative here! Good Article
