Building Relationships For Social Media Marketing

So I have been writing about how to do Social Media Marketing for a local business with no budget. More specifically, for the company I work for. This is a local insurance brokering firm in Chicago and vicinity. I am not sure if I already mentioned this on another article, but let me share with you that I was promoted to manage all online marketing efforts for the firm and I have the idea of building up a team that will be in charge of all the marketing and online sales. This is super awesome for me since I enjoy doing it 100%!

In this article I want to talk about an idea I wrote about in a prior article which is to build relationships with other local businesses in order to build a stronger Fan base. The idea is to run promotions that involve other local businesses, ideally with a bigger fan base than ours, in order to increase the number of likes to our page and get local Fans as well. As I mentioned before, I have no budget so far. This is due to the website still being built by the company that provide us with the insurance quoting software.

Once the website is up and running, I will request for a budget to run ads on Facebook and target specific niches. Meanwhile, I have to find ways of getting more fans by motivating everybody involved in the company, clients and people that don't know about us yet. So, going back to building relationships for Social Media... I have contacted a local restaurant which marketing efforts are being ran by a local Social Media Manager. I have to confess that I was a little hesitant when I found out that they were using a Manager themselves because... well, I am new to this and there are some people out there wanting more business if you know what I mean. But you know what? I've also learned that to take bold actions pay more than to do nothing or risk nothing.

So I contacted this person and to my surprise it seemed my idea was heard by her for the first time. At least it sounded like that, she said that she was having a meeting with the restaurant manager yesterday and that she will let me know if they agree to the promotion or not. I personally would jump into it because it means more business to them and more exposure. Although, they have about 350 fans we only have 66. But that is the idea, to help each other and if I can have four people eat at my restaurant all paid by another local business, why not?

So I am waiting for her to call me back. Hopefully it will be good news.

Shawn, I was thinking the same thing. Nothing more rewarding than sharing what we know with others and hopefully help. The first try didn't work out as I wrote on "First Fail" article, but I am still trying. I will let you know ;)
