How To Get The Most Out Of Social Media

I was reading an article by Shawn Lee and it occured to me that he knew how to captivate and engage his readers. This is exactly how to get the most out of Social Media too. The mistake that I and many others are guilty of is that we are too desperate to make the sale.

If you read Kyle Wa on this directory you will find that he too makes this point. People in general do not like to be sold. They will avoid a sales pitch until they are ready to buy. What the average shopper does is first gather the information on competing products, typically this will take them 6 to 7, or more trips to stores, or web sites to gather information.

Once they have all the information they will typically compare features and benefits, pros and cons of each of the items they are comparing, they will then usually bring the choice down to one or two items before doing a final comparison check. Finally they make the decision to buy often after asking the salesman some very specific questions in order to help that final choice.

So what does all this have to do with getting the most out of Social Media? Well stop and think about the process, then ask how this may affect your use of Social Media? I hope you will see a link, we can let people know what our interests are using Tweets and likes, you can pin links on Pinterest and each of these could (should?) lead to review sites. People will look for 6 to 7 such signs to find the items they want to compare, so give them the benefit of what you have found in the articles you write, link to review sites that compare the benefits and pros and cons of several (2 to 3 should do it) of the items you are trying to sell, and link to a good landing page or affiliate link from the landing page only after you have outlined all of the benefits and pros and cons of each item.

People like to make informed decisions and they like to feel that they had to work a little to get that information. They also like to ascertain the opinions of people they know and trust. this brings me back to Shawn Lee, he is actually the number 1 ranked author on Street Articles. The point here being in the article I was reading there were no links at all! He wrote on a topic solely because he had feelings about the subject that he thought others may appreciate and that his thoughts may help others. This is what I am getting at, if all we ever post on Social Media is Internet Marketing related we will actually drive our audience away! The lesson is to share good stuff no matter whose it is. If we can gain people's trust and respect, then and only then will they be ready to buy from us.

So link to good information that will help your potential buyers especially early in the process, they will look at several sites before buying and will usually return to the one they found most helpful. Your thought for today!
