This information may sound redundant for many but it will be very useful for anyone trying to start a Social Media Management business. Becoming a social media manager could free your time up to enjoy with your family and loved ones. Although, breaking into this type of job it is always possible if you really treat it like a business instead of a hobby. Working for yourself online or being your own boss is a demanding and never ending way of keeping tag on yourself in order to maintain focus and a steady work pace to see results. Let's review the basics of becoming a Social Media Manager.
Learn How To Work Social Media Sites
If you already know how to put up basic information on Facebook, Twitter and Google+ you are half way there already. Feeling confident that you could perform simple tasks on these websites for business owners that do not have the time sometimes will make you feel as if you were stealing from them due to the nature of their projects. But reality is, you are saving them time and keeping an eye on the good standing of their brand and products.
Start With Small Tasks And Build Your Portfolio
What I am currently doing right now could be useful for you as well. The company where I currently work needed some Social Media Marketing done, I volunteered to do the job without pay. So far it is working very well for both of us since they do not know how difficult or easy it is to manage a Facebook Fan page or to build one, I am doing all the work right now and I am seeing other opportunities that we can leverage in the near future. I am presenting these ideas to my boss and he is very happy with them so far.
This way, I will have something to show to other business owners backing me up with results and some experience. Regardless of not getting paid for my work right now, I am building my portfolio.
Plus, you know that the sky is the limit. A simple social marketing campaign could be blown to many different venues such as Email Marketing and SMS Marketing to mention a couple. You get the idea.
Get The Proper Training And Never Stop Learning
The internet is an ever changing world and we need to keep up with it. Take some time off and invest it on yourself. Learn the new marketing trends related to your line of business. Keep an eye on how social media sites evolve and communicate with their members. Facebook for example comes up with new ways that facilitate the job when promoting a business or a Fan page. Lately, they came up with what they call Re-targeting, it is a very interesting subject for a later article. I would suggest you read about re-targeting and other methods and learn how to implement it in your campaigns.
So there you have it, some simple training on becoming a social media manager. I am currently working on it, I know it is not easy and that it will take time. But I want to keep doing it until I build a good client base and become my boss full time.
