Does anybody remember the days of Myspace? The days when you meet somebody new and told them your myspace page instead of phone number. It seems those days have passed and been replaced by Face-book. Well I decided to write an article comparing these two social medias(both which were social network giants of their time). I also will discuss the future of both networks. The decline of the once all powerful myspace was a shame but, as they say,"You cant stop progress".
MySpace Features.
From what I could remember about Myspace, the layout of it was only limited to the users imagination. I knew plenty of people who offered their services(for a fee of course) in order to make or remake someone's myspace page layout. Who could forget those crazy pictures seen on Myspace. It seemed as though everyone was trying to out do one another with their myspace profiles. I have seen everything from bikini pictures to dressing up like Spongebob Squarepants in order to get friends. Oh, the days of bragging about who had the most friends. One of the key features of Myspace was of course its status features which, people used to keep one another aware of what was going on in their life. This was both helpful and very deterimental. Helpful because it allowed members of your family as well as long lost friends to keep in touch, very hurtful because because it was also used as a way to tell people off, or give snide, caddy replies to someone you did not like. This caused a lot of unnecessary drama that split over into real life and caused harm. Another great feature of Myspace was the emoticons, which where little faces that depicted the emotions being felt by the user.
Face-book Features.
Also, known as the more mature version of Myspace. At one time during the transition from Myspace to Face-book, everyone who did have a Face-book was considered to be elderly, because the features available were not as complicated. When Face-book was first gaining popularity, the layouts were simple, the status could be updated, but there were no emoticons. As time progress, everyone seemed to make the transition from Myspace to Face-book, because of the so-called viruses that were being put on Myspace, causing major malfunctions of peoples computers. I remembered listening to some of my friends claiming that once they made the transition from Myspace to Face-book, that all the drama and unnecessary foolishness that was on Myspace would be left there. Funny, how Face-book has become the "New Myspace" in more ways than just one. Though Face-book has many game features, the layouts of Face-book are all the same, which does not allow much personal creativity, but in similar fashion to Myspace, the profile pictures are still as outrageous. The timeline feature of Face-book gives users a visual graph of the post that they have made in the past. I still do not fully understand or enjoy this feature, but it's there for some reason I suppose.
Great idea for an article, and a good read. Keep 'em coming.
