Social Media Is Social Marketing – 3 Writing Tips

Social media is social marketing and here are 3 tips to help you succeed as you relax and write from your heart!

Writing from your heart can make a big difference. Working backwards, think about your reader and what you want your reader to feel or do. Pick stuff to say that's easy for you. Pick a real person! Knowing who you're writing to can help you focus.

1.Pick one person to write to

If Uncle Dal is within your desired group to write to, write as if Uncle Dale is sitting in front of you. If someone else is a better example, put that person in your mind instead.

Write as if you are talking to “your” one person. Yes, you’ll have to do more later.

Because you'll be more effective when you know exactly who you most want reading what you write. But in addition to knowing your audience, that is to say, your target market, you’ve got to pick them off one by one.

As in simply connect with and engage one reader. Indeed, social media is public conversation. But one person reads one message at one time.

And you know how to talk to one person, right? Write to one person.

Write from your heart!

2. Pick something simple to say

If you have a goal that you can write about, that helps you to focus and be comfortable writing. When you’re comfortable, your interest, passion and excitement shows.

Sometimes it'll seem like it even leaps off the page. You catch your reader's attention.

Keep your goal clearly in your mind. Focus on connecting with your reader and sharing yourself in regards to your goal.

Use words the way you would talk with the person you picked as your reader. Use small words! This is about connecting one on one, not about proving the size of your vocabulary.

Keep a clear goal. Focus on the one person you have in your mind.

These ingredients get your words out from your heart and onto paper. This is the recipe for connecting with your reader.

Write about something simple.

Write from your heart!

3. Pick what you want your reader to feel or do

Talk to your reader from your heart. Use your best social abilities and connect with your reader.

Write in a way that develops a relationship. Create content that leads your reader!

Help your reader to feel or do what you picked so you can help your reader can learn one thing at a time from you.

Use your words, that is to say, your copy, in a way that guides and influences the feeling or action you want. If it’s action you’re looking for: be direct.

People often do this in creating an email mailing list. Write with a goal!

Write from your heart!

Would agree with the other comments here Cynthia. Definitely does help to have a focus and to write something meaningful to yourself... get this right and connecting with the audience is more likely. I'm still finding it difficult to perceive which articles will be well received but that's half the fun! Thanks for this one!

Heather, Thank you! Appreciate you making time to share that. You're right, figuring that out is half the fun! I guess I find starting from me, and my heart, simply gives me a place *to* start. blessings, Cynthia

Writing from the heart is the best advise one can give, I often wonder if my articles are what I want to read or what others want to read? Do I write for myself or for others? I have found when I write an article that I think is what people want to read, it fails dismally, yet when I write what I want, it has moderate success. How to judge an article, is it by reads or by comments?

Rob, Thanks! Hmm. I'm not sure how to answer that. I guess it's a combination of both because -- statistically online! -- most people don't make time to comment. blessings, Cynthia
