Twitter Business Marketing

So you've taken the plunge into social media marketing. As you have already determined, social media is too large of an opportunity to miss out on. Successful businesses are tapping into the power of internet marketing through social media using all platforms (Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest). With Facebook you can create a fan page. On Pinterest you are able to post images linking to your website and advertise current specials or services. Twitter offers a number of potential methods for advertising your business. If you are new to Twitter business marketing, here are a few steps to get started.

Create a Personal Twitter Account

As a business owner, you will want to be sure you have created a personal Twitter account. Using a personal account will allow you to build a following and advertise your business through your personal Twitter followers. This will also be a means to demonstrate your personal proficiency within the Twitter platform. This is especially important if your business includes a blog where you are an author. You will want to advertise your Twitter profile within your author page.

Create a Business Twitter Account

You also want to create a business account within Twitter. Your business account will be the primary means with which you advertise your business and current specials. Be sure to make your Twitter user name clear and relevant to your business. The best option is to use your business name or a short-hand if the business has a long name. You want this to be something memorable.

Add Twitter to Your Website

Now that you have created a Twitter account, you need to add a link to your Twitter profile on your website. This could be as simple as adding the Twitter logo with a link to your Twitter profile. You could also create a widget from within your Twitter profile. Regardless of what you choose you need to add a link on your website to "follow" you. Remember to place your link in a prominent location (the bottom of your site is not a good place) and keep it simple.

Start Following Others

Now in order to begin building a following on Twitter, you need to start following others. Begin by finding others within your industry, vendors you participate with, and friends. Now that you have found them, follow them on Twitter. Many of these will follow you back which will begin to help you create a following.

Start Tweeting

Marketing your business on Twitter is only useful if you are regularly posing tweets. Tweets should vary between advertisements, advice from within your industry, and general statements that will help promote your business. One effective way to advertise with your tweets is the effective use of hashtags. Another is through retweets from your followers. The more often your followers are retweeting your tweets, the greater the audience you will reach.

Twitter is an excellent resource to market your business, one you don't want to ignore. If you haven't already, go create a Twitter account today and starting Tweeting!

Street Talk

Hi Johnathan, thank you for your ideas about using Twitter. I enjoy using Twitter because I can do retweets and let people know about my articles on there. I really appreciate the information about hashtags. I was wondering how to find them and how to use them.
