So You Think You Want to Be a Network Marketer?
Are you really up to the challenge? Based on what I've been seeing lately, not many are.
Most people think that network marketing is all about getting eyes on your product or service as a means to make money online. Well, for the most part, the idea is correct, but it's not what it's all about.
Imagine if every time you logged into the internet, there was a pop-up that jumped in your face asking you to buy the "next best thing"? Don't laugh, it's happening all of the time out there! Would you buy that?
Now I know that everyone that wants to become a network marketer usually does so because they believe all of the hype and fluff that tells them they can make some quick money by posting some links that will help them to sell stuff with next to no effort what-so-ever.
I'm first to tell you that it's simply not true. There is no magic button that will allow you to grow money on demand (no matter how much someone tells you they do), it just doesn't exist. But because there are so many gullible people in the world, some marketers tend to use this to their advantage as a means to fill their pockets.
So you say you want to be an "ethical" or "truthful" person and be different from the rest? That's good. But, I've met a lot of folks that want to believe that they are being that type of marketer, but they're in a big state of denial. I'll explain what I mean by using an example of something I noticed the other day on Facebook.
I use FB as a means to market some of my businesses. I also have many friends who are marketers themselves (fancy that!). Some I met in a system I used to be a member of, others just on the fly. I still read their posts at times, because I love reading the stuff they come up with trying to "leverage the system" based on training they received from other members or inside training.
One day I caught glimpse of a post by one of my friends that was rather scathing to a particular demographic and I really wasn't happy to see it from this person. I always held them up to a higher standard, I guess.
The post went like this:
"Just over heard a conversation at a store where two clerks were dealing with a customer.
The conversation went something like this, "If we didn't love what we are doing here, we wouldn't be here! ".
What a crock of bull!
most people are only in that type of job because they couldn't find anything better to do to make a better wage. And they spend their days hoping for the next raise of 25 cents which only comes in six cent increments anyway.
If they found something that paid better they'd be the first ones gone.
And yet, how many people know there are better options out there?
Change your thinking, change your mind, change your life...."
I think it best to focus on the marketing "mantra" of many involved in the industry. They tout "attraction marketing" and "changing your thinking" above all else. Now I don't know about you, but I LIKE the way I think. It may not be pleasurable at all times, but it's who I am. It helps me make logical decisions and judge matters without bias. By focusing on changing your mind, plan on changing yourself in the process. It's that what's you need, then more power to ya! If you're comfortable, leave your brain alone!
The problem with this post is two-fold. First, what if these people are honestly happy with where they work? My first impression would be to believe people when they express themselves in this way. So, who are you "Mr. Marketer" to judge those people for where or how they work? Why is it a "crock of bull" to you? I just don't understand. There are two issues with brushing this off as impossible.
- Some people DO love what they do...even if you think it's below you.
- Some people DO and some DO NOT know the options out there for them (but if they love to cashier at a counter, doesn't mean they don't know about other options).
So, just because these people don't do network marketing, does that make them idiots or worse in your eyes? Of course not. But I see time and time again, network marketers trying to classify people into categories like they do their WordPress blog posts as a means to justify why people aren't joining them in their internet business.
You simply can't recruit EVERYBODY! Why? Because a normal society fails under those circumstances. Some of these marketers think that if they belittle those that don't want to be internet marketers, it will make them feel better about themselves. They try to convince others that they just "don't get it" and could be doing "so much better in life" than bagging groceries or something similar.
I'm going to send a profound message to those that run their internet business in this fashion. Putting down one's fellow man as a means to impress your little bands of other marketers doing the same thing. (Peer Pressure sucks, I know, it's for this reason that you're probably working this way in the first place).
Are you ready? Here goes...one sentence.
"If you convince everyone you badmouth to become a network marketer so they can "succeed" in life, the next time you go shopping for dinner, who's gonna bag your groceries at the checkout for you?"
Chew on that one for awhile...then comment to tell me if you still think those two clerks above should be network marketers.
See you on the flip side...
