There are quite a number of careless mistakes made on Pinterest that people never take note of. Look around your follower’s boards or even your won homepage and try to take note of some. To be honest, I have made quite a number of mistakes on Pinterest which actually motivated me to write this article for you; but first, it is important to understand why Pinterest is important and why you shouldn’t make mistakes on it.
Pinterest is already one of the giant social networks, second to be specific; right after Facebook. According to an analysis made in March Facebook users spend an average time of 7.5 hours logged into their accounts (wow!) with Pinterest holding the second position with users spending an average time of 98 minutes. Twitter is somewhat below with some 28 minutes, which still is not as bad as Google Plus who had users spending only 3.3 minutes in their accounts back in January. Nevertheless, Google Plus did manage to grow by some 10 million users between January and March which I can give them a +1 for. Anyways, enough about the social networks, lets get to the main purpose of this article:
Mistakes Made on Pinterest
1.Spamming
There’s actually no greater mistake made on Pinterest than spamming, especially by affiliate marketers. Spamming Pinterest will not get your pins more exposure or sales, it will only make your followers hate your content and probably stop following you. Spamming Pinterest is simply not correct, simply pin once and wait (not for sales).
2. It won’t happen overnight! (In most cases)
I have seen cases whereby many people have desperately tried to get tons and tons of re-pins in order to gain more exposure for their content, but this simply never happens and it leads them to somehow hate or leave Pinterest(one sad of the most sad mistakes made on Pinterest).
Gaining exposure for your pins is actually hard but I have a trick which never fails me. It’s actually a process that I can’t explain fully and effectively in this article but I promise to soon get an article up on this and provide you the link in this article, in that article, I explain why you shouldn’t wait for sales without making some steps to gain useful exposure.
3. Your Linking!
This point is actually my motivation to writing this article, so please never make this careless mistake ever!
Have you ever tried to make a pin on Pinterest and got the error, no image found probably because the image you had targeted was too small? So you took an image URL, got the perfect image and changed the link afterwards? If so, pretty please avoid doing so :)
A couple of days ago, I uploaded a video on Youtube and pinned an image about it. It was social content which would easily get re-pinned thanks to my trick (which I promise to share). In a few minutes, I got some 50 re-pins and really got excited but on viewing my video’s analytics, there were still no views at all. So I headed back to the Pinterest pin and thought of commenting, ‘thanks for viewing the video’ or ‘don’t for get to watch the video’ but on getting there, I almost shed tears!
I had not changed the link to the pin, so whenever someone would click on it, the person wouldn’t get sent to the video but to an enlarged form of the image! I didn’t cry over spilt milk, ( not for long) but what I did was edit the pin and re-pin it after a number of days. After a bit more research, I found out a more effective method to avoid this mistake which can really occur easily.
Wrap Up!
Well, I guess that’s what I have for you.
I don't know about you but I really consider Pinterest to be a whole lot of fun. Getting that new e-mail in my inbox of someone following me really gives me joy, but I always remember never to make the mistakes made on Pinterest.
By the way, if you are curious to see my 'educative pin' it's in my 'Life as we know it board' with some big writings of 'Wanna Play?'
LOL!
Thanks for your time :)
I have never heard of Pinterest but will certainly give it a fly by. Thank you
Great article, I use pinterest a lot for marketing means and I made exactly the same spamming mistake to begin with.
Thanks for the information Deshinali, I haven't started using it properly yet and it helps to know in advance what not to do.
Pinterest is so new, it's good to get some info about it.
Very nice information about video pinning. I will implement this ASAP on my PINS and add a call to action for people. I like video marketing on Youtube, it ranks high on search engines. I think social media and video sites will be the future of the internet , thanks for sharing this valuable info Deshinali
