Spend Time With Your Niche

Are you an online marketer and have your own website? Ever wonder how to increase your traffic and get others following you? Are you spending time with your niche?

What is your niche?

In order to have a presence on the internet you will, of course, need to have a website. And that website needs to be focused on a very specific niche. This is your corner online and you must know what it is you’re marketing or blogging about.

Find others in your niche

Now that you know what you’re doing online you need to find others with the same or similar interest or niche. You need to spend some time searching for them on the internet and checking out their websites.

For instance, my niche is Baby Boomers so I have spent a lot of time searching for other Baby Boomer websites. However I choose to type my query into a search engine, I need to now take the time and check these sites out.

Talk to the people in your niche

Once you have found other websites, you need to read their latest posts, don’t just skim them, and then leave them a comment. Your name and email are required and some of them even let you leave your website address in a specific box.

Take the time to comment on their post with meaningful comments. Don’t just say “great post” and move on to your next “conquest”. This is about beginning and maintaining genuine conversations. Highlight something in their post that struck a chord with you, made you smile, or caused you to express a differing viewpoint. Be meaningful…but be respectful.

Get involved with your niche socially

Many websites, and hopefully yours is one of them, will have the social share buttons. Go ahead and share, they will appreciate it just as you would if they shared your post. Again, be genuine, share it if it was meaningful to you.

Many of these websites also give you the option of following them; whether on Facebook, Twitter, or others. If you like what they are saying, selling, or showing, you should follow them. This begins to build up your “friends”, your “tribe”, or whatever else you choose to call them. You then have the opportunity to follow them regularly and comment and share within these social networks.

Be an online friend

More often than not, I have found that as I join in conversations or even make comments I begin to make “online friends”. This seems somewhat foreign to those of us who are accustomed to creating friendships face to face. But yet, it’s true…as you get to know the people behind the websites you find yourself getting drawn into their lives, their circumstances…even their problems.

It’s interesting to find that sometimes it seems easier to care and get involved with people that we have never actually met before. Before you know it you find yourself commiserating, cheering, even providing advice to people who have the same online goals as you. It’s quite incredible, really.

So when I suggest in the title to “spend time with your niche”…I’m actually saying, “Spend time with your online friends”. They’re a great group and very encouraging and supportive.

And to all of you who read this and follow me in any way or have offered comments…thank you and I look forward to our online friendship.
