In 1928 Author and church leader Watchmen Nee wrote a book called The Spiritual Man. For more than 70 years this classic on spiritual growth has helped many in their pursuit of gaining Christ. The intention of the book was to set a clear and proper path for the Christian faith. His life's work and spiritual contributions were nothing short of miraculous given the grueling conditions of his imprisonment in early twentieth century China.
Watchman Nee spent 30 years in ministry and published many books expounding on the Bible. He started new churches throughout China and trained Bible students and church workers. After the Communist Revolution, Nee had been persecuted for his faith. He was jailed for the last 20 years of his life. He died in 1972 but his words still remain as an abundant source of spiritual revelation even today.
Because of it’s length (over 700 pages) The Spiritual Man is broken down into 3 volumes. The book emphasizes spiritual reality. Each volume covers a wide scope of specific questions such as hearing God’s voice, understanding God’s will for our lives, and much more. Every subject in each volume can be attested to in experience. Although the book is very inspirational it is not an empty word. The book is a step by step process toward the peak of spiritual life for those who seek God with an honest heart.
Countless subjects are addressed such as regeneration, salvation, filling of the Holy Spirit, the baptism of the Spirit, fellowship, prayer, supernatural experiences, and miracles to name a few. These issues are explained in a deeply profound way but written in a very simple way.
The first volume starts by outlining the meaning of the words, spirit, soul, heart, mind, and body. The book clarifies the origins of the Hebrew and Greek translations as they were used in context with the Old and New Testament. Nee goes on to explain that all communications between God and man lie within the spirit. Not knowing how to fellowship with God in spirit will result in a substitute of soulish activity of mind and emotion. Ultimately keeping one from the spiritual realm.
Truly Watchman Nee was gifted as a communicator and spiritual leader. The books are a deep read but give answers to most of life’s toughest questions. Weather you are a believer or not, everyone has an instinctive longing for truth and understanding. Watchman Nee’s A Spiritual Man gives light to those questions in a unique and personal way.
