Four Steps You Can Take To Improve The Soil Of Your Spiritual Life

I will be the first to admit, I don't know the first thing about taking care of a house plant. Plant lovers, like my sister Gale, use to say there's more to it than most people would think. She explained that you must talk and sing to them and become intimate with them like a best friend.

Others say you should touch them and even listen to them. If that's the case, It wouldn't be in the best interest of a plant if I was to bring one home because I would forget about it until it leaves fall off.

I once thought all they needed was water and sunlight to live and grow. I now understand that there's a lot more to it and the soil they're planted in dictate how healthy they grow. Just like a house plant needs healthy soil to grow we should plant ourselves in healthy spiritual soil to grow gracefully. But before we can do that there's some other things we must do.

Plow Up and Start Over

Our old beliefs must go because they're the soil that our thinking is planted in. We must remove our old self-centered thinking at their roots and replace them with God-centered thinking. The kind of thinking that produce strong and deep roots that will prevent us from falling when the storm of life comes our way.

Uproot The Thorns of The Desire of This World

The willingness to live differently takes courage, honesty and faith. I never understood how can someone be in the world but not of the world. When I was of the world I didn't have the spiritual insight it took to understand its full meaning. As I studied God's Word and come to know Christ personally, my desires began to change. My thorns was beginning to uproot.

This new relationship caused me to lose interest of this world as God begin to take more control of my life. As my faith in Christ develop, the courage it took me to follow Him was strengthen and my wants of this world and sin begin to lose its power over me, as long as I was honest with God and myself.

Have a Refreshing Devotional Life

Plants need attention and so does our spiritual life. Finding time for God and His Word is the best thing we can do for ourselves. But Satan will tell us we're too busy and will give us a hundred thoughts on things we should do soon as we wake up, never giving God time to plant His seed in us.

People who produce the best crops in life usually have a strong devotional life and make time for God whether it mediating, reading His Word or prayer.

Surround Yourself with Rich Topsoil

How much we grow spiritual have a lot to do with the people around us. It's hard for us to stay positive and spiritual when we're around negative people. We can sometimes be around negative people even when we're alone. So we must watch what we tell ourselves.

Like growing a house plant, we should take our spiritual growth seriously by making sure it gets the time and attention it needs. So get to know Christ personally and allow Him to change your thinking. Develop a supportive community and a strong devotional life. That way, your root system of your spiritual life is extensive and deep, strengthen by faith and trails and not shallow like an over-watered plant. Copyright number PZEH-QT8F-A9KR-WEGB
