Does God still speak to us today? In the span of four thousand years The Bible references that God spoke hundreds of times. When we break that down over so many years it appears, God’s speaking was a rarity. It seems that when God spoke audibly it was an exception and not the rule.
In the recorded biblical verses it is not clear the ways God spoke, whether audible, a small still voice or a mental thought. God does still speak to His children today in various ways. God speaks especially through His Word. We also hear Him through impressions, thoughts and events. Finally, as in the biblical days he does still speak to some through His voice.
The majority of the time God will speak to us through His word. God tells us that everything we need to know is in His word; how to be saved and how to live as He expects us to live. He says that through His word, He will accomplish all of His desires and His purpose. For His children, through His words, we can live a Godly life, having His word to guide us in everything we do.
Sometimes we will have an impression, an idea or a feeling that comes upon us and we know it is from God. These ideas or feelings will touch us as never before. Occurrences of this kind do not have any basis of evidence and really they reach us through an unconscious thought. On the other hand through our conscience thought, God speaks to us to help us determine right from wrong. While we are becoming more Christ like in our walk with Jesus, God will change our thoughts to agree with His thoughts.
Everyone experiences pain and difficulty at times in their lives. God sometimes allows these events to change and redirect us. When we go through trials although we suffer, He is using them to help us grow spiritually. God wants our faith strong and genuine so we will glorify and honor Him.
We have all heard of preachers and different people who tell us that God speaks to them audibly and there is no biblical reason to doubt this. We do have to remember though, that in all the accounts in the Bible these occasions where few. That would lead us to believe this does not happen as often as some may claim. When hearing a claim of this sort we must always compare it to what the Bible says. God’s words will be in total agreement with what is written in His words, because God does not contradict what He has said.
Whatever way you may experience God speaking to you, take heed, listen attentively and follow his Words. When God speaks to us he is demonstrating His love for us and therefore He has something important to say to us. We are His servants and He is equipping us for the good work we are to do.
As God speaks to us, may we always feel the love he is bestowing upon us and know we are truly blessed that he took the time to speak to us.
