I have always heard that the faith of a mustard seed is all I need. For many years I did not understand that saying and I pondered at relative questions to that idea. For instance, why is a mustard seed all I need and if I had only a mustard seed worth could I lose it? Or could I get more than a mustard seed worth? If so, how could I develop and grow that seed of faith?
Well, many years down the road and learning how to develop my seed I have reached my own conclusions of this mustard seed faith. A mustard seed is such a small thing. You can barely feel the seed in your hand. It is about the size of the head of a pen. But Jesus said little is needed because God has given us the seed of faith. All I had to do was believe and trust in Him to finish His work.
I found a mustard seed is all I needed, but I had to feed it and today my faith is tremendously strong! Once I had that mustard seed I found I could not lose it if I fed it. We all know if we do not eat we get weak. The same goes for feeding our spiritual body. In order to grow our faith we must feed our heart and mind with His Word. It was through reading the Bible, attending church, listening to the word preached, worshipping in song and praise and professing His promises that my mustard seed grew.
After receiving salvation my next step was to figure out how to grow my seed. The Bible says faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. I began to read my Bible regularly and I searched the scriptures for answers to my questions. Attending a bible believing church was my next step in growing. Again The Bible instructs us to gather in the house of the Lord and fellowship with others and hear His Word preached. The more I read and heard the more God opened my eyes to His truths. I praise and worship through song and fellowship not only in church but all through the day. Giving glory to our Lord pleases him. I listen to Christian television, radio and cd’s that agree with the Bible to expand my faith. Speaking His promises continually has helped me remain encouraged and strong.
My faith today is strong but there are still days that I get discouraged and doubtful. But I know I am human and the devil is still alive working endlessly to prove God’s Word is a lie. I resist and profess the Word of God and by God’s Word the devil must flee. The more I profess His Word the stronger my faith becomes. It is a daily walk and does not happen overnight. Faith in His Word takes away fears, anxiety and stresses because I rely on Him and what He said He would do. It is a wonderful way to live and well worth the journey because I know He is in control of everything.
And just think it all started with a little mustard seed! Jesus told me. Where was my faith?
