So You Call Yourself A Christian

We see people every day and think, how can they be a Christian with the way they are acting? Although no one should judge it is very easy to find ourselves asking these questions. Let’s ponder these questions for a minute: • What qualifies a person to be a Christian? • What makes a Christian different from a non-Christian? • Why do Christians still sin? • What is the proof that I am really a Christian? • Can anyone be a Christian?

The Bible says in order to qualify to be a Christian we must be born again. This means we must accept the free gift of salvation that Jesus Christ offers. To do this Jesus must first call us; then we must accept the invitation of salvation he extends to us. In accepting the invitation we must believe and confess with our mouth that Jesus died on the cross and shed His blood for our sins. Then, we ask for His forgiveness of our sins and acknowledge we are willing to turn away from them. We ask Him to come into our life and be our personal savior. This is the only way to be a true Christian. God says by no other way can you enter into eternity with Jesus Christ.

Christians are no different than non-Christian except for the fact they have accepted salvation. When they received salvation they were sealed as a child of God. All their sins were washed away, forgiven, past, present and future. By Gods grace they are no longer bound to sin. All people are born sinners. Since the time of Adam and Eve, when they disobeyed God, sin was placed upon all humans. There is only one perfect person and that is Jesus Christ. Christians cannot be perfect people either, but by their acceptance of salvation when, (not if) they do sin, they will ask to be forgiven, He is true and faithful to forgive.

When Jesus comes to live on the inside of you He creates a new person. The proof of being a true Christian will vary for each individual. It may be a feeling of His presence. For some it may be what is called a gut feeling knowing He is directing your path. Your conscious will be at a high level. You will begin to want to change your life to live as God wants you to live. It does not happen overnight but day by day you will see yourself walking closer and more in line with what God wants for your life.

Anyone can become a Christian if they will seek God with a pure heart. He is faithful. No matter the sin, it is His desire that no person should perish. When you are truly ready and are willing to place Him first in your life, He will offer you the free gift of salvation. Once He extends His offer all that is required is for you to accept. We all have struggles in this life, and we do not always act the way we should. Because of sin, humans naturally live in the flesh. When we become a Christian and have received salvation we have the assurance that He will be in us and with us each step of the way.

Choosing not to be a Christian guarantees us nothing. I choose to be a Christian with all my flaws and mistakes and know I am forgiven and that my eternity is secure.

It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the Lord? Accepting is only the beginning.

Again I thank you for commenting on my article. For myself I am not fearful but relieved that my future, with Him, is secure. I agree accepting is only the beginning, but if we will place Him first He is faithful to be with us every step of the way.
