The Person, Who Angers Us, Controls Us!

When we allow a person to anger us we are essentially allowing them to control us. How is it that certain people just know how to push our buttons? We sometimes feel so out of control that we doubt we can change the way we respond. Maybe there is an underlying factor we are not aware of. When we look with a new perceptive, we find we can react in a different way; one that will bring us a more positive result.

We all have felt anger, whether it be from some small annoyance or an absolute rage. Anger is a normal emotion used when we feel threatened in some way. Within the right framework, anger is most always healthy. A certain amount of anger is necessary for our survival. However, when anger gets out of control and becomes destructive it can lead to a number of problems. The overall quality of our life can be affected dramatically.

In dealing with anger there are many positive and therapeutic avenues we can consider. Health professionals suggest relaxation, anger management and communications skills to name only a few. This life is full of pain and loss, frustrations and unpredictable people. We have no control over these things or people, but we do have control over the way we let them affect us.

The Bible tells us that carrying anger will blind us and lead us into spiritual darkness. Satan is there, readily available to attack us with his lies and disrupt out thoughts, keeping us in the darkness and as a result he gains more control into our lives. God commands us to love one another, so Satan stands ready to attack us in hopes he can keep us from the love of God.

There is only one person responsible for our actions and that is we, ourselves. Practice is essential in controlling our anger and in time we learn through discipline how to maintain and control our anger. When we can remain calm and admit we are angry, we can then accept responsibility and begin to take control over our anger.

When God tells us to love one another, we must refrain from throwing punches, calling names and putting others down. We are commanded to behave in a Godly manner by staying calm and controlled, focusing on resolving the issues rather than invoking more damage. When we do this we can settle down and begin to see things more rationally.

God created all of our complex emotions including anger. We will express our anger from time to time, but we need to do so in a way that is pleasing to God. Jesus commanded “be angry, but do not sin.”

It takes a great deal of practice, but if we are to love our brothers as commanded and we want to please God, it is well worth the discipline and dedication to gain control. If will practice as Jesus instructs, we will soon control our anger and take back the control from those who control us through anger.
