When we touch the life of another the feeling is immeasurable. So why is it our natural tendency to allow our own wants and needs to take priority over everything in our lives? Continually every day we are all making choices that will affect our lives and the lives of others. If we could all begin to place our focus on helping our brother as God commands us to do, we would soon see our own blessings begin to flow.
Our world is full of people who are hurting and are in need of a touch. We need look no further than our own neighbors and communities to see the urgent needs. This world has spiraled into economical and financial ruin leaving many devastated and without hope. The opportunities to reach out and help others are enormous.
We know this but we continue to focus on ourselves. With the sin within us, our flesh or carnality (the devil) is forever trying to be in control. In the bible we are told in the last days men will become lovers of self, conceited and having no appreciation for anything or anyone. Let that not be us!
In our fleshly (sinful) minds we say what’s in it for us? Well first and most importantly, it is commanded of us and we are to follow his commands. God commanded us to do good, to share because it is pleasing to Him. When we carry one another’s burdens we are fulfilling God’s law. God has placed in all of His children the desire to love and help our brothers. God is clear to say when we see a brother in need and do not help him; His love does not abide in us.
If we would just open our eyes to what Jesus did for each one of us on the cross, we would begin to realize his amazing love for us. In that view alone, we should have a burning desire to help our brothers in every way possible.
God does not ask us to do these things in vain. He has promised us if we will give, He will give back to us in the measure we have given and more. Think about that! Who can out give God?
When we place our focus upon others, we begin to see our own issues and problems as less of a priority in our lives. With the love God has placed in each of us, when we help our brother there is a feeling we receive that is beyond any explanation. It is when we are doing God’s will when we find the peace and love He so freely offers. And that my friend should be enough! Let’s all touch a life and love our brother as ourself.
Your article is well written and you links work. What law are you speaking of?
Thanks for your comment. From the Bible I am speaking of "love your neighbor as you love yourself." When we do this we are following his command and also touching the lives of others.
To love one another. Sorry I have been away from street articles a long time.
