Evading Drugs
Most Common Methods to Avoid Drug Detection during Testing
Before you conduct a drug test, it is important that you create an environment where the possibility of the sample being tampered with is avoided. Drug Abuse Control Home Drug Tests will provide you with accurate results if the sample used has not been diluted or doctored. There are many ways people evade giving a true sample for a urine drug test. Make sure to have the person empty their pockets before the testing and remove all products from the bathroom. It is also a good idea to seal the toilet shut and turn off the mains valve to avoid water being used to dilute the sample.
Here are four common ways people try to avoid detection of drugs in their urine:
Drinking water
The simplest way to avoid detection of drugs in the urine is to dilute the urine. If you have turned off the mains and sealed the toilet, adding water directly is not an option. However, some people will drink enormous amounts of water before a test to achieve the same result. The result is a sample that is too watered down to be tested accurately.
You can tell if someone has tried this because their urine will be almost clear. Your best bet is to wait a day and then make sure the person is supervised and restricted from liquids for 3 hours prior to the test.
Detox Cycles
Anyone can go online or to their local store and find products that claim to be detoxifying solutions. While advertised to increase a person’s health, they are most popular to help someone hide the presence of drugs in their urine. These detox cycles have a number of ingredients in them that can act as a diuretic, causing the kidneys to flush faster to rid the body of evidence or act as agents to confuse a urine test.
The easiest way to avoid having the test ruined by this practice is to make sure that the person is supervised for 3 to 4 hours before the test. That is usually the amount of time it takes a detoxifying product to work.
Additives
Removing all bathroom products is essential and checking to make sure the person’s pockets are empty as well as not allowing purses or knapsacks in the sample room prevents them from bringing in additives that will alter the test results.
Some examples of what can change results, and are easily concealed in small baggies or vials are bleach, eye drops, liquid soap, vinegar, regular salt and lemon juice.
Switching Samples
One of the reasons it is a good practice to make sure that the person’s pockets are empty, and to do a pat down of their legs, is it is common for them to carry in a sample of urine that is not their own to provide.
If you suspect that the sample has been switched there is an easy way to test it. Hold the testing vial with the sample in your hand, if it is body temperature then it is a fresh sample; if it is cold then most likely the sample was switched.
