5 Simple & Effective Ways Of Coping With Stress In The 21st Century

Are you struggling to cope in the fast pace of life? Are you constantly feeling stressed, frustrated and fatigued?

It's not surprising and you certainly aren't the only one! Modern day living has become so fast paced and frantic that more and more people are experiencing regular episodes of stress. Be it work related stress or family issues, each and everyone of us has to contend with stress throughout our lives.

The bad news is that eliminating stress altogether is impossible, anything can trigger stress and there are many triggers that can lead to you feeling stressed. The good news is that we can learn how to better cope with stress and manage it more effectively.

In fact learning how to cope with stress and adjust the way in which we react to it is important as stress not only has a detrimental affect on our mental state of being but can also affect our physical well-being. If you don't apply a few simple stress management techniques then it can lead to increased blood pressure, heart problems, eating disorders and even other physical conditions that tie in with these such as diabetes.

That's why it's essential to follow a few simple but effective guidelines for managing your stress. Don't allow stress to escalate and affect your general well-being! The following are a few practices you should adhere to in order to better cope with and manage your stress.

Identifying the cause of your stress

Do you tend to worry about anything and everything?

This is a common cause of stress and most people become accustomed to it and don't realize the mental pressure they're causing there-selves! Try to identify the bigger causes of your worry as these tend to be the root cause of your smaller worries. Identify the things that are leading to your worry and causing you to feel stressed. Perhaps you're constantly fretting over money worries or perhaps you are struggling to keep up with your workload in your job.

Whenever you begin to feel stressed take stock and ask yourself what caused you to feel this way. You'll find sometimes that something trivial has lead to you feeling stressed and could be avoided. Really take the time to evaluate what's causing your stress and anxiety, understanding this is the first step to effectively managing your stress.

STOP worrying

As previously stated one of the biggest causes of stress alone is worrying. Try and let go of your worries, find something to do to take your mind away from worrying. Engage in activities that help you leave your worries on the doorstep, pursue a hobby or even just a clean around the home can help you channel that mental energy and provide you with that "feel good factor".

If you have no control over it then don't fret about it!

Far to many people get worked up over things they have no control over. What does this resolve? Nothing! The only person they're affecting is there-self. If for instance you find yourself stuck in traffic on the way to work and running late you may find yourself getting worked up, frustrated and of course stressed.

This doesn't change the situation though, the traffic will still be there whether you're stressed or not. Whenever you're in a situation beyond your control take a calm approach and remind yourself getting stressed will not resolve the situation. It will in fact only make it worse!

Maintain a stable diet

Maintaining a stable diet is essential for both your physical and mental well-being. If your not careful and don't manage your stress properly it can cause major disruptions to your eating habits. You may start skipping meals altogether without even realizing it as stress can cause loss of appetite or on the other end of the spectrum you may start over-eating and eating the wrong foodstuffs.

Make sure you eat right and maintain your three meals a day, breakfast, lunch and dinner. If your body doesn't get the proper nutrition you'll not only affect your physical health but you'll feel fatigued, sluggish and wont be able to operate at peak performance on a mental level. A proper diet really is important for lowering your stress levels and shouldn't be overlooked!


Exercise is a natural stress busting technique like no other! Stress can cause you to feel tense and agitated, when you feel like this you need to release that tension and clear your mind. Regular exercise will also help to reduce the risk of conditions that can be caused by stress such as heart problems and hypertension.

Apply these five stress management techniques on a daily basis. Making a few adjustments like this can really have a profound impact on how you cope with stress and improve your general well-being.
