What is your daily life like? Do you keep a strict schedule, never varying from it, or do you sometimes change your routine? Some people keep a strict schedule. They find it comforting to follow a routine and do the same thing every day at roughly the same time. There are reasons to be flexible, however.
One reason is because of situations beyond your control. If you normally watch a television show at a certain time every day but wake up one morning to discover that a storm has knocked the power out, you cannot make it come back on. It will come on whenever the repairs have been made. In the meantime, you can enjoy activities that do not require electricity. If it is light, you can read, write, or draw, for example. If it is dark, you might consider going somewhere to wait out the outage. You might go to the mall, for instance. At the mall, the power will be on. You will be able to see, and the temperature will be comfortable. You can go in the stores and look at items such as perfume, handbags, books, or suits. After your trip to the mall, you can return home. The power should be back on by then, in which case you can settle into your evening activities, such as watching sitcoms, doing school work, or publishing articles online. Special situations are not the only reason to be flexible, however.
Another reason to be flexible is because of loved ones. If you normally eat at a certain restaurant when you go out to eat, but your loved ones prefer to eat somewhere else, be flexible and agree to eat where they want to eat. One reason to do this is because it is the nice thing to do. Another reason is because it will be something different for you. Your taste buds might appreciate the change.
Finally, being flexible might help you to lower your stress, which will keep you healthier. If you acknowledge to yourself that what you normally do simply cannot happen, go with the flow, and let things work out on their own, you will be more relaxed. If you are relaxed rather than stressed out, you will feel better. You will be more fun to be around. Finally, the work that you do will be better. It will be of a higher quality, because you are relaxed and able to focus on it, rather than being stressed out over a disrupted routine. Breathe deeply, relax, and enjoy a flexible lifestyle.
