Many people experience stress and anxiety everyday and have a hard time finding a way to manage it successfully. We live in a fast paced world today with many obstacles that are stress related. Some examples include work related issues, obligations at home, financial issues, death of a loved one, losing a job or being in a bad relationship. Some people find that having a dog is very therapeutic to help them manage their stress from day to day.

There are many benefits of having a dog to help you control or manage your stress related symptoms. You will benefit by getting some exercise by taking your dog for a walk. Exercise is known to relieve stress and make you feel calm. Many people make many new friends while out with their dogs. You could meet people easier by striking up a conversation talking about your dog. Having someone to talk to will help reduce stress and anxiety as well.

Dogs can distract you from experiencing stress and anxiety by preventing you from just sitting around thinking about your problems. Dogs keep you active and keep your mind off things when you play, laugh, walk, run or just spend time with your dog.

Dogs provide great companionship especially for those that live alone or are lonely. Having a dog can help you feel loved and needed, by the unconditional love that they provide for their owner. Human beings also have a need to be touched. Petting and cuddling with your dog is known to relieve stress and anxiety.

As people get older, they lose things that previously occupied their time and gave them a purpose in life. They may retire from their career or their children may have moved out of the house. Caring for a dog can bring pleasure and help boost your morale and optimism. Taking care of a dog can also provide a sense of self-worth and help you manage stress.

Those people who have dogs tend to be happier, more relaxed and feel more secure than those without dogs. It is important to pick the type of dog that suits you best. You’ll benefit most from having a dog whose needs are compatible with your lifestyle and physical capabilities.

The most important thing to keep in mind when getting a dog is, you’ll be making a commitment that will last the lifetime of your dog possibly 10-15 years. You will find your pet very therapeutic and bring you many years of enjoyment.
