I Am Talking About Good Frustrations

There are days when it just seems that there is nothing that can be done. We are literally tearing our hair out in frustration because no answer seems to be available. Yet it is beneficial to remember that at these times, the perception or even the fact that we are tearing our hair out in frustration is a signal to stop and recognise that there might be no answers this time.

Not every problem or question has a solution or answer, other than to give up and move on. Frustration is not always about getting it wrong; sometimes its nature’s way of saying; Stop trying to find a way out; there is none. Make your camp here.

A lot of people do not like this however. They have the notion that if enough resources are thrown at the problem; enough money, time, effort etc, something will give. But reality is unbreakable. If it can’t be done it can’t be done.

Of course there is the argument that if no one challenged the status quo we would still be in trees or caves etc. Fair enough; however, we are not questioning the wisdom of challenging conventional wisdom, we are questioning the wisdom of dismissing frustration as a natural indicator of it being time to stop and ask these two simple questions:

1. Is it possible that no answer or solution is available?

2. Is it possible that paradoxically; this is the answer or solution?

I know it might seem a bit metaphysical, but it is actually a variation on the old adage that ‘no-one climbed a wall by banging their head against it.’

It’s not that the wall can’t be climbed; it’s that it can’t be climbed in this way. Better to step back, get the proper tools and equipment and assess what it is you actually want to do – climb the wall or cave your head in?

Sadly, those who feel most frustration are usually those who have or are beginning to develop problems such as depression and obsessive thinking, so this natural gift of frustration is not to be taken lightly. Nature has worked with reality for a long time and learned a trick or three. That is why it gave us frustration. Not to wind us up, but to keep us calm, clear and free from mental health problems.

So the next time you feel frustrated: ask the ultimate question:

Is the answer or solution to this question or problem, that there is no answer or solution to this question or problem?

It might save you a fortune on headache pills if nothing else. Believe it or not the world is full of Good Frustrations.
