Have you ever felt like you were having a heart attack and found out it was really a panic attack? When you are overly stressed out, nervous, or fearful about something, some people will experience this. Many people won't know what they are experiencing. Some may say they are having a heart attack but in reality, it is a panic attack..The two have similar symptoms and this is why people confuse them.

Chest pain is a major symptom of a heart attack. One major reason why people confuse a heart attack with a panic attack is because they experience chest pain. Lets look at some other similarities between the two. They both have symptoms of nausea, tingling, sweating and shortness of breath. Even though they have similar symptoms, they do have differences and you can learn to tell the difference.

A heart attack, the chest pain will usually be described as a crushing feeling . It also starts in the middle of the chest. You may experience pain in your left arm and going down your back. You may also experience pain in your neck or jaw. The pain will usually last longer than 5 minutes. Some may even break out in a cold sweat, feel sick to their stomach or vomit. Usually, people don't hyperventilate with this either.

On the other hand, with a panic attack, the chest pain usually stays in the chest area and doesn't travel to other areas. The pain is not described as a crushing feeling and the pain comes and goes. The numbness and tingling one feels, can be felt in other areas of the body unlike a heart attack where tingling is usually only felt in the left arm. You may also be fearful of something and have anxious feelings. Also, this may only last 10 minutes or so.

In Summary, panic attacks will usually make you feel short of breath, feel overwhelmed, sweat, tremble and increase your heartbeat, and are usually stress related. Heart attacks produce feelings of being light headed, disoriented, and shooting pain in the left arm, or chest pain. If you are in a situation where you can't tell the difference in your symptoms, don't hesitate to call for help or 911. It is better to call for help and find out it was a panic attack instead of a heart attack. At the hospital, they can do tests to rule out a heart attack by checking your cardiac enzymes. This is your life we are talking about. By acting fast, you could save your life.
