8 Reasons Why We Fail

Failure is the state or condition of not meeting a desirable or intended objective, and may be viewed as the opposite of success.

Failure is something that must occur in our lifetime, regardless of whom we are or what we are going to become. It only depends on what we make out of it. For this reason, I have decided to coin out a few points on why we fail.

• Not being able to make decisions

We spend a lot of time trying to make decisions, even when we already know the right thing to do. And after we have been given suggestions on what to do, we still go ahead to do what we already have in mind, so tell me what is the point of seeking the opinion of a hundred of people when we will still do what we have in mind. Difficulty in decision making creates room for procrastination, Laziness and other bad habits towards failure. It is good that we have a clear thought of what we are going to do and not being afraid of doing it. Even if we are going to discuss it with somebody, it should be the people that have either done what we want to do, people that are doing it at the moment or people that are planning to do it in the future. Not discussing it with people that are entirely new to what we want to do, or people that are in total disapproval of what we want to do.

Before we think of doing something in the first place we have already visualized it, most times, we have already seen the beginning and the end in our mind. Then if this is so, it will be very difficult for someone to change our mind by mere suggestion. In fact, it will be much easier for us to change our mind after we have done what we have in mind to do, and have come to a clear conclusion that what we have seen is not for us.

• Emotional Respect

This happens most times, when we do not like what we are doing but we cannot say no because we are afraid of hurting someone’s or some people’s emotion, which might be due to their believe in us or out of the respect we have for them.

Oftentimes, this happens in the case of a father and a son, a teacher and a student, a congregation and a member. And when something of this nature happens all that it leads to is regrets, downcast all the time and depression. We need to live our own lives not other peoples, and that’s the only way we can get matured, that’s the only way we can find out the truth, and where we belong. This does not mean that we should not be open to suggestions, opinion, or changes. We have to; otherwise we will have a fixed mind.

It is not a bad thing to respect people’s emotions, in fact, I think it is a very noble thing to do but with moderation, I mean a lot of moderation otherwise we will end up ruining our own ambitions.

•Weak Preparation & Indiscipline

This happens most times, when we are not doing what we know very well, what we do not like and even when we are doing what we like we allow our self to be induced by our whips or bad habits. And if this is our story, we have to wake up and get in touch with reality. And nothing can get us close to this reality than discipline. Show me any achiever in the course of history who never had a defect, and who did not conquer his defects through discipline, if you think you don’t have time, quit watching television and put yourself into something meaningful. And for those of us who are not doing what we know very well, in life there are a million things to do, in fact new careers, new techniques, and innovations come out every day. All we need to do is to be a little versatile and open our minds to learning. There is a fit for everyone.

• Having a Fixed Idea

This is when we hold a thought or an idea very firmly that we cannot allow anything new to enter inside. But let’s face it, the world is not meant for us alone people change, time change, and things change we cannot be relying on the way we did things decades back neither can we be relying on solely, our own thought this will only ruin our progress and that of the people we work with. If we have thought about an idea like years back and we have not executed we should look around, there might be better ways of doing what is it that we want to do.

• Building a bad network

How would you be studying Mathematics in the university but you hang around a lot with those studying English. You have to build your own network, within the network of the people whom are in the things you want to do, this will only make things easier for you.

Endeavour to be in the right community where you can get the latest news, and the latest innovations of what is it that you want to do. The people surrounding us, strongly affects how we think and act and we borrow a lot from them consciously or subconsciously.

• Inconsistency

There should be consistency in what we do, we can’t quit because of the failures of each day otherwise we will not get better. This sometimes comes after little mistakes and small strokes of failure, everyday is a new opening and only with continuity in our effort towards our desire, we would discover the offerings of everyday. No day is the same even the little failures of everyday has its own pile of success. And we can only get better by beginning again and again daily. When the going gets tough and sure it will, we should not give up, rather we can do something a little bit different but not outside the line of our objective or think about the beautiful things that will come our way when we have achieved our goals. Consistency is the key to getting better in our professional work.

• Lacking Order (First things first)

We should endeavour to be orderly, we should always give priority to what we do, it saves us time, anxiousness, and it also helps us to be better prepared.

A good example of this is to be watching a movie a night before an examination.

Being orderly helps us to be determined, focused and to become good managers of time, especially when things are getting out of hand.

• Lack of faith

Lack of faith is a great defect especially when we are always used to doubts, when we lack faith, it slows down the entire process because we are always looking for an approval, and reduces our chances of taking risks. Once we have decided to do something, we should get to it once and for all, for it was never ours, if we haven’t thought about it in the first place. If we lose money in our journey, it can always be replaced but if we lose faith, then we are finished.

I hope I was able to outline all the challenges of failure, life is not a bed of roses but always have its ups and downs if we can learn to overcome these challenges which wouldn’t be easy we will constantly grow towards achieving that which our heart desires.

"I am still determined to be cheerful and happy, in whatever situation I may be; for I have also learned from experience that the greater part of our happiness or misery depends upon our dispositions, and not upon our circumstances."

- Martha Washington

May your journey be enriched with success and happiness.
