When you saw your reflection in the bathroom mirror this morning, did you happen to notice some gray hair? Gray hair is normal as one grows older. It may also be caused by stress. Since stress is part of life, and it will never go away, you may want to consider dying your hair to hide the gray.
One reason to color your hair is if you are trying to attract a mate. Individuals are often initially drawn to one another because of attractiveness, although there is often a double standard. Men with gray hair are viewed as "distinguished", while women with gray hair simply look "old". Once a man and a woman get together and begin dating, however, they usually manage to look past the gray hair, especially if there is chemistry between them. They talk, laugh, spend time together, and perhaps eventually marry.
Another reason to color your hair is because employers often tend to look more favorably on younger employees. Younger employees will be sick less often, and they will be more likely to remain with the company. Gray hair is often associated with aging and slowness. If an older person wants to have a shot at a job, he may need to dye his hair in order to measure up to the younger people who are applying for the same position.
Everyone has dreams, and people deserve to see their dreams come true. It is possible for your dreams to come true if you have a good job and a steady paycheck. What are your dreams? Have you dreamed of touring the country to speak at schools and then staying to sign copies of a book that you wrote? Coloring your hair may mean the difference between getting that speaking engagement and sitting at home wishing, waiting, and hoping to get it. If you want to help your career, focus on you--your appearance, your presentation--everything that is you. When people leave the auditorium after hearing you speak, you want them to remember the good things. When they are talking amongst themselves, you want them to say, "She was such a good speaker." You do not want to be remembered for gray hair or other undesirable characteristics.
When you color your hair, it is best to stick with your natural color. For example, if you naturally have brown hair, color it with brown hair coloring. Normal, natural colors such as brown and black are best in the workplace. The one exception is the movie industry, where you are cast as a character. If your character has pink hair, you then get to color your hair pink.
Consider coloring your hair today. When you dye it, you may notice that you feel more confident. You may also discover more opportunities that are now available to you.
Thank you, Hollie--this is some good advice. I've often thought, just lately, that it would be fun to dye my hair. I don't get out much, but I thought it would be fun just to look different until the roots grew back. My daughter, who occasionally models, has always been a different color every few weeks (her principal called me once, when she was still in High School, and said "Your daughter has dyed her hair blue!" and I said, "Yes?") So, I've been considering something really wild like that--but your idea, to use it just as a rejuvenating change, interests me now, also. But I think I better get it cut, as a first step--I cut my own hair and I usually look pretty weird for awhile, since I can't hold my arms up long enough to cut it in just one day. But now I have an incentive, so thanks for the article!
