In life, career, and business I’ve studied and have been blessed with the experience to know that marketing is the key for success. As one of the highest paid professions in the world, marketers keep that position because of their unique knowledge of getting clients for business or customers for products. But is the knowledge really unique? While we are at it let’s define the meaning of marketing… “Marketing is the process by which companies determine what products or services may be of interest to customers, and the strategy to use in sales, communications and business development (This definition was found on Wikipedia).”
To me, marketing is much simpler a definition; marketing is identifying a market or consumer-base of people who want, need, or desire your product or service; and your efficiency to communicate and fulfill their need or want. Okay not that much simpler… and the thing is we use both of these definitions every day in our lives. People use marketing for everything, we make friends, and we find dates, spouses, and jobs, even our shopping patterns are based on our indirect use of marketing.
Smart marketing finds the right people to work with and build around. Finding the right people helps eliminate all confusion and makes the process to attain a customer or client smooth. Let’s look at it from a making-new-friends perspective. Let’s say you are an easy going laid back individual who loves sports, particularly baseball. You move into a new city the first thing you do is identify the consumer base of people who love baseball or the professional team in the city. You communicate with those people and fulfill their need, thus fulfilling your need in making a new friend or associate. And many doors open based from that initial friendship.
The same things happen with a spouse, except sometimes there is a detour because guys go for the good looking lady while women tend to go for the character of the guy. In the end, you are teaming up with someone who is in your market of personality, positions-on-life, interest, and commonalities. If you seriously trace how you make friends and date down step-by-step, you will find a pattern, one in which you can study and use to market just about anything. If you are a business owner this is one skill set you want to learn. Marketing is the key for success… in just about anything.
