Scared of Success? How To Stop The Fear Of Success

We often hear about the fear of failure but as a matter of fact, we might want to talk about the fear of success. Being scared of success is a much bigger issue. We usually are aware of the fear of failure. There is so much discussions about it. The facts however are different when the fear of success is considered. In this article I will discuss some of the reasons why there is so much fear of success – 3 of them as a matter of fact, and some of the solutions to address this problem.

1. One of the reasons why success is scary is because of the weight we put on the word success, the process of being successful, and on the state of being successful. Being successful can be a very “charged” state of affairs. We think about having to make tremendous efforts, and the hard work it usually takes to become successful. There is a lot of emotions involved and, very often they are negative emotions, laced with fears that cripple us.

2. Beside the fear that often accompanies the quest to be successful is the self-doubt that creeps in most of the time. We start on a path, and then we question what we are doing, we question our motivation: why do we want to be a success in the first place? If we have a faulty foundation such as for revenge( “Watch, I'll show them”); or if we are trying to punish someone with our success, those reasons are rather weak foundations for success. If these are the reasons, we will probably sabotage ourselves in the process.

3. We have to question our motivations. Really have the courage to look deeply within ourselves. Are we wanting to be successful to win approval, acceptance or praise? If that's the case, then we can say that our motivation is faulty, weak. There again self-sabotage can raise its ugly head.

The solutions to being scared of success are simple. We have to take the time to go deep into ourselves, analyze ourselves and dissect what our motivations might be for success. Then, and only then will we be able to be successful beyond measure.

Moreover, we must develop the fortitude of believing in ourselves without needing external approval. Very often this is easier to be said than done.

We must fight negative thoughts and consciously strive to be more positive. Being mindful of all the blessings we have in our lives no matter the conditions that surround us. We have to really work at being happy most of the time. The practice of being grateful and reminding ourselves to thank the Universe for the good things (and the bad) we have in our lives is essential.

I know that all this sounds much easier than it is sometimes in our reality. Nevertheless, with constant effort in controlling our thoughts, it's very possible to put a stop to being scared of success and start thriving.
