This article is the first in a series on the Health benefits of Amino Acids.
Although Amino Acids are the building blocks of Protein, each has it's own specific benefits which you can obtain by taking Amino Acid Supplements and other Healthy Nutrition Supplements For Life. This article may not cover all the Amino Acids and their hidden secrets but the ones listed should give you greater insight to their benefits.
Alanine.
Research shows that L-Alanine Supplements taken at bedtime by persons with Insulin dependant Diabetes may be more beneficial than eating conventional pre-sleep snacks which prevent overnight Hypoglycemia.
Arginine.
Arginine is an immune system booster. Arginine increases muscle mass and helps the body lose fat which in return makes you look more toned and defined. Both Body Builders and Weight trainers can increase Nitric Oxide levels by taking Arginine with Protein Supplements. Nitric Oxide increases blood flow which in return enhances performance and endurance. Nitric Oxide is made in the body but is also available as a pre-workout supplement in powder or tablet form.
Aspartic Acid.
This Amino Acid is beneficial for endurance and Stamina. It has shown to aid in the relief of Depression, Fatigue and can increase metabolism. Aspartic Acid links with other Amino Acids which form molecules that remove toxins from the bloodstream.
Carnitine.
Carnitine is a double agent in that it is listed as an Amino Acid but it is closely related to B Vitamins. Carnitine increases the use of fats as an energy source. This is beneficial because you know that it is aiding in the elimination of fat even when you are not exercising.
Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid or (GABA)
GABA has a calming effect on the body similar to Valium, Librium and other tranquilizers. It can also be used to treat Hypertension and Epilepsy. GABA is non habit forming. GABA should be used in moderation because it may cause increased anxiety or seizures.
Glutamine.
Glutamine prevents wasting disease (Cashexia) which I referred to in an earlier article called "Protein the cornerstone of muscle". During times of sickness when persons are immobile or incapacitated for prolonged periods, Glutamine Supplements can aid in muscle retention. Many weight trainers use Glutamine Supplements to assist in their daily routine because of this added benefit.
