Health By Vitamins: Part 2

Vitamin research continues to confuse and be slanted in one direction or another. With so many competing for the attention of the health conscious people out there, how can you know who to believe and who is trying to pull the wool over your eyes? Can you really improve your overall health by vitamins?

Foods: Before and After

The short answer is YES and the reason has to do with many factors associated with the foods that we eat everyday. The only way that we can have the correct levels of vitamins and minerals in our bodies is to have them in our diet. Foods have been shown to have decreased levels of the vital nutrients that our bodies need to be happy and healthy. This fact contributes to the reasons why half of all people in the US supplement their diet with vitamins, minerals and herbs.

The reason that the food we eat has lower nutritional value compared to 50 years ago has to do with the grains and crops that come from depleted soils. Many large commercial farms out there produce crops in bulk with no attention to soil quality or what effects these practices have on the grains, fruits and vegetables that are harvested on their lands.

Can Foods Make Us Sick?

The health news has been filled with the increase of heart disease, diabetes, thyroid problems and many more. Depression is also on the rise and research is beginning to come out that connect these diseases and disorders to the very foods we eat.

If the deficiencies that are on the rise can be traced to the very foods we eat, then it only makes sense that by supplementing our diets with the proper nutritional supplements will lower the chances that we will suffer from these diseases, right? Recent studies have contradicted this idea and has many people wondering if taking vitamins have any positive effects at all. But are these studies using synthetic or all natural vitamins?

Time to add one more wrinkle into this equation. The traditional vitamin supplements whether they are tablets, pills, chewables or liquids are made of synthetic vitamins. In fact, 95% of all vitamins are synthetic. These synthetic substitutes lack the proper co-factors and enzymes that are present in the organic, all natural forms of vitamins.

If you are truly looking to improve your health by vitamins, then a careful study of how the human biological systems work would be a worthwhile endeavor. Fortify your knowledge and become healthier and happier.

The worse thing about vitamins is that people tend to forget to take them regularly. I have all kind of vitamins... natural... one-a-days... b-complexes... but they won't improve your health unless you actually take them. :) Nice and interesting article and I hope more are coming! ;-)

I wrote an article about the very thing! That is a great analogy for many things in life, my friend! I have been thinking about putting together a Vitaminder, with interesting quotes and facts along with a reminder to take your vitamins. Would that be something that you think people would sign up for? Hey, thanks for reading and your great input. I appreciate it a bunch!

You mean like a daily email or blog or something? Yes, I think it's a great idea! I know that there are many people who struggle with creating new habits, and I believe a daily reminder would be perfect. :)

I am not really big on supplements, but having said that I agree that it is a big challenge to ensure sufficient uptake in today's nutrient deficient corporatized food regime. I even go so far as to ferment my own natto for its valuable vitamin K2 and other goodies. But if you gotta supplement natural is certainly the way to go. "The proper co-factors and enzymes" are so important and so few people seem to be aware of that.

I agree with you Jim. We should be feeding our bodies what the need with food but for many people their diets just leave them empty when it comes to nutrients. It's to bad we don't all eat the right stuff but better to get what you can from all natural vitamins then to get nothing at all.

The cool thing about getting your vitamins from all natural sources is that they are in the form that nature intended for us to benefit from. Thanks for checking in, Ty and appreciate the great insights.

You are a rare beast of reason, my friend! The lifestyles of most people do not support health! Thanks for the kudos. The fact that so few are aware of the need for natural supplements is why I have started this campaign! Thanks for reading and for the great input, Jim.

Hey I use vitamins daily as I find it hard to get all the natural ones form my food. I try to each fresh fruit and veg every day but you know how life is and things get in the way of preparing proper food. So the only way is to supplement it. I try to make sure I get Vitamin C and omega 3 everyday and I seem to keep in good health from that. You can't beat the taste of a fresh orange though pills are OK as a last resort.

So, so true! Life gets in the way sometimes doesn't it! My brother found that the hard way... He suffered a stroke a little over a month ago, thus my reason for getting this type of site up and out there. Thanks so much for reading and comment, my friend!
