Not Enough Clients to Go Around? Big Companies Resort to Dirty Deeds And Cheap Tricks to Get Their Numbers Up

The latest obesity numbers are frightening. There is now not a single US state that remains below twenty percent obesity and more than a dozen that are over thirty percent. With millions of men, women and children tipping the scales, you would think there would be no shortage of clients for the various health and wellness companies, however, there have been several accusations between the major players in the fitness game that indicates that even with all of these potential clients floating about, there is no depth to which some companies will sink so that they can get their numbers.

In recent weeks, a quiet battle has been fought, mostly on social media, including Twitter and Facebook. It is unlikely that either of the combatants will push their fight into the main stream, but it is impossible to always predict how these things will play out. What is known is that there has been some major trick playing, hood winking and wool pulling by both of these companies, both supposedly dedicated to the health and fitness of their customers and both supposedly knowing better.

Imagine being a rep from company number one and working hard to tighten and tone your body, building lean muscle mass and losing fat by exercise, excellent diet and the company's supplements. You post your before and after shots of all of that hard work only to have a member of the rival company steal your photos, photoshop your face and head out of the shot and then relabel it as their own success story! Don't think that it is an isolated issue because it is not. It is frighteningly common and part of the reason it is not heard about more often is the fear that there is nothing that can be done.

The typical fitness supplement program works by selling various products, workout DVD's, fitness equipment and accessories and supplements and more to clients, but the major money maker is in signing others in to do the selling as well. And regardless of what the company calls the process, it comes down to the person who can sign the most clients and then in turn turn clients into salespeople is the winner. That might explain some of the cutthroat behavior between all of the companies. One claimed that the other's research in regard to their top selling meal replacement is bogus. In return, the other claimed that their rival was stealing their formula for their own product.

In the middle of the war is the consumer, looking for help and guidance to lose weight, but feeling ignored while these two companies focus on one another rather than the people they are trying to help.

Nice article! All that competition for an industry that is humungous! It's the same with most any competitive business, I bet! Heck, I even had an article that I wrote stolen from me! The person renamed the article and changed the photo! LOL Kind of like what you said they do with photoshop and changed the head but left the body and then called it their own! It was so funny though, because I talked about thoughts of this ole cowboy and she didn't look like an old cowboy to me! LOL Anyway, I did enjoy your article!

I agree they are absolutely frightening and really it is just all about choice. Choose to exercise, choose to eat good food, choose to set a good examples for your children. Gayle

It's simple. Eat right. Do simple calesthenics at your own home. No fancy products. No fancy gadgetry. Just good old-fashioned common sense and hard work. Voila....healthy and happy. The media make people think they need to look 'outward' to regain health. The only true answer is looking within.

Absolutely. Although, I love my hula hoop- nothing like a five pound hoop for a nice trim waist !

I would put your hula-hoop in the 'simple calesthenics at home' category. You are right. It is fun, and surprising to most that it can work up a good, old-fashioned sweat.

That is way too easy, Doc! You mean you can get healthy without all the healthy supplements, drinks and pills? Wow, I would have never guessed that, because of all the hype and ads about various health related products!
