Protein Supplement, Casein Or Isolates?

For every body builder, the most important nutrient that we can supplement into our diet is protein. Without protein, our muscles can't rebuild bigger and stronger and that is a body builders' main goal. Therefore, it is necessary for us to get plenty of protein in our daily diet. There are several different types of protein supplements out there, today we are going to talk about two of the most common. Which is the most effective protein supplement?

The truth is, they all of their benefits, mainly depending on when it is taken. The two types that I am going to discuss are protein isolates and casein. You may ask yourself "what's the difference, protein is protein right"? To a certain extend that is true, but it is also false.

The protein isolates break down in your body at a much faster rate. The faster it breaks down in your body, the sooner your body can use it to begin rebuilding the muscle tissue. After an intense weight training session, your body begins the repairing process very quickly. It is important that you have the nutrients there for your body to begin healing. So the most effective protein supplement has to be isolates right? Yes, and No. For an after workout supplement, yes, I would recommend protein isolates.

However, the muscle repairing process is just that, a process. It takes time to repair your muscles completely, It could actually take days to completely rebuild the muscles that you have broken down by lifting weights. This is where the casein protein is more beneficial.

Casein takes longer for your body to break down and use to repair. What that means is that your body will be using it to rebuild your muscle tissue for a longer period of time. Seeing how your body does most of it's healing after you go to sleep, it is very beneficial to take casein protein prior to going to bed. This will give your body the nutrients it needs to rebuild muscle while you are asleep.

In conclusion, there really isn't an answer to which is the most effective protein supplement. Both of these supplements are equally beneficial when taken at the right time in the repairing process. My recommendation is that you take a protein isolate supplement right before or right after your training session, and take the casein protein right before you go to bed. Either one make a good in between meal supplement as well. It is important that you get enough protein in your diet whether it be from food, supplement, or both.
