Supplements - Do They Really Work

The idea of taking supplements is a very personal thing to each individual. If you were to ask a room full of people for their opinion they would be many and varied just as the people are themselves. Take for instance the current craze of taking diet supplements. These are promoted quite freely on television and we even see doctors suggesting they are great for getting rid of our surplus flesh. That is the flesh that has crept on to our bodies over possibly a number of years and now for one reason or another we want it gone. Oh for a magic pill but where is it when we want it?

At present you can trawl the internet and find numerous reviews on the African Mango supplement; does it work just because some famous doctor on television is promoting it? A member of my family gave it a try and like any other of these wonder supplements it ended in precisely the same way; absolutely nothing happened. Not a pound/kilo disappeared. Is this the fault of the person faithfully swallowing this pill every day? Have they been doing something wrong? No, they have just been duped like so many others into believing there really might be something out there to make their life easier. They won't have to diet or exercise to get rid of this ghastly fat that hangs from their body. This fat that not only makes them feel and look bad but is also a real health risk.

So who gets the benefit from all these diet supplements on the market? There is only one place to look and that is directly at the manufacturers plus the companies who are making millions by doing all the marketing and advertising. Do you really want to put all your hard earned dollars into the pockets of people such as these?

On the other hand there are many supplements which do nothing but good for ones body. Think of all the vitamins and minerals on the shelves that can be used to make up for what we lose in our food. It is a widely known fact that in many countries selenium is lacking from the soil, consequently those folk eating fruit and vegetables grown in this soil are clearly missing out on something essential to their overall health. The simplest most effective way to solve many of these problems is to cultivate your own small kitchen garden. Here you are able to add anythng you require to the soil and can create the perfect compost from all the kitchen waste.

While supplements can be great for our overall health we should not forget the benefits of exercise. This does not need to be expensive, it can be as simple as walking the dog along the beach or hiking in the hills with a friend. It is also worth given some thoughts to using some weights or kettlebells on a daily basis. These not only get your metabolism working correctly but will help with the dreaded weight that so many of us are desperately trying to shed.

So think on this then, supplements for dieting? Probably not the best way of getting fit and healthy but supplements for general health benefits, definitely worth investigating.
