In this article I would like to touch on some information about Vitamin F. Essential fatty acids are sometimes refered to as Vitamin F. The body does not produce fatty acids. Vitamin F is broken down into two groups linoleic acid and gamma-linolec acid. Fatty acids are the omega 3 and omega 6 acids.

Vitamin F is essential for healthy mucus membranes such as the lining of the mouth and lungs. If our immune system is poor we could be lacking in Vitamin F. enough Vitamin F will assure normal growth and behavior.

**If one is deficient in Vitamin F they may have a problem with acne or hair loss. Blood pressure and cholesterol levels may be higher than need be. Some people may have a problem with swelling in their extremities or (edema) With enough Vitamin F, hair will just be healthier looking, and shiny. Skin will be more youthful looking. Memories may be more alert. And, people who have arthritis may be deficient in Vitamin F.**

If you are overweight, have dry skin, dandruff, dry eyes and brittle nails your Vitamin F may be lacking.

From what I have read Vitamin F does not seem to cause a toxicity problem, even so you still need to consult with your doctor first. I am not going to go into any dosage recommendations because as I said you should consult your doctor before starting any vitamin or supplement therapy, if you do not you do so at your own risk.

The strange thing about vitamins is that they usually work best with other vitamins and when you shop for vitamins, just scanning the store shelves could make your head spin. Where does one start and how does one buy the correct vitamins or combination of vitamins. This is why you need to read and study what certain vitamins are for and what deficiencies you may have that could be corrected with the right vitamin. We need to become more informed.

*Zinc, magnesium and selenium plus vitamins B3, B6, E and C will help improve the effects of Vitamin F.* Just to be on the safe side vitamins should be stored away from heat and light. Vitamins are generally bought in dark-colored bottles and this is why. When you buy Vitamin F, read the labels and if you see that the linoleic acid, during processing has been converted to trans fatty acids. it is not a good thing for the body. Make sure the fatty acids are hydrogenated.

When you go grocery shopping look for foods high in Vitamin F such as, grains, nuts, and seeds such as soybean, walnuts, sunflower and sesame. Meats and fish such as tuna, salmon, mackerel, and trout are excellent sources of Vitamin F. Avocados are also an excellent source of Vitamin F.

Fatty acids are available in flaxseed oil, grape seed oil, Canola and walnut oil.
