Warning! If You Are on A Cholesterol Lowering Medication, You Need to Know This!

The World Health Organization (WHO) ranks every country as far as overall health status in regards to their health care systems. In America there are definite problems with the current health care system and there has been since the early 1900’s. According to the World Health Organization rankings, the United States is ranked 38th behind most of Europe, South America, Canada and some Asian and Middle Eastern countries. Those who think the U.S. health care system is the best in the world are dead wrong. It’s not the worst but it is certainly not the best either.

You may be wondering, how can this be true? The simple answer is that the health care system in the U.S. is designed to manage health problems and not heal people of their conditions. I prefer to call it Sick Care. If it weren't for a huge number of Americans practicing some form of Complimentary and Alternative Medicine (CAM), that 38th place ranking could be worse.

There are way too many prescription drugs out there that do not do a good job at making you well, especially without a laundry list of negative side effects. In this article I want to focus on cholesterol lowering medication, also known as Statin drugs.

If you take Lipitor, Mevacor, Crestor, and any of the other cholesterol lowering prescription drugs, you are in danger of developing worse off health conditions than just high cholesterol. All of the statin drugs work in a similar way to reduce cholesterol. NOTE: They do lower cholesterol but it is how they do it that is the problem.

The negative side effects from taking a statin cholesterol lowering drug is not only numerous but deadly. For example the cholesterol lowering statin drug Baycol was pulled off the market in August 2001 because it was linked to at least 31 deaths.

Why do the drug makers and the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) allow these drugs on to the market with known negative side effects? If they really cared about promoting health care and not sick care, why offer these dangerous drugs and ignore the multitude of natural options with proven track records? Answer, because they are in the business to make money and not promote quality health.

I was watching TV the other night and a commercial came on for the statin drug Crestor. Anytime these drug commercials come on I always look away but I always just listen. It’s amazing how much you can learn from just listening as opposed to watching and listening. The reason is because your visual senses will always override your audio senses. This is why TV advertisements do a better job at promoting a product.

In the Crestor commercial the side effects were: headaches, muscle pain and weakness, fatigue, upper belly pain, yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, and many others I couldn’t write down fast enough. So what did I do? I went up online to the drug manufacturer’s (AstraZeneca) website and saw all of those side effects I just listed plus: nausea, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, weakness, kidney and liver disease plus many other problems. Why would anyone want to risk their health just to lower their cholesterol when there are better and safer ways to do it?

Every statin drug lowers cholesterol by blocking the HMG-CoA reductase pathway on all of your cells. It is effective at lowering cholesterol but it also blocks the body’s ability to manufacture Ubiquinol Coenzyme Q10 as well as other beneficial nutrients. You cannot live without CoQ10 because the heart cannot beat without it.

Every cell in your body needs CoQ10 to function properly and to not only produce energy but to protect it from free radical damage. Free radicals are the underlying cause of most things from aging to high blood pressure to cancer to viruses and more.

Do you know which organ uses the most CoQ10 in your body? The heart uses the most CoQ10 so when statin drugs block the production of what little the body makes on its own…well you can obviously see how dangerous that can be.

If you decide to continue taking these dangerous drugs than you must take supplements of Ubiquinol CoQ10, at least 200 mg. Though I do not have high cholesterol I personally take at least 200 mg every day to keep my blood pressure and cholesterol levels normal, to keep my overall bodily energy up, to boost my immune system strength, to protect me from cancer, to slow down the aging process and to combat free radical damage.

That’s a shocking statement right? Unfortunately it is sadly true. In the Dr. Julian Whitaker’s Health & Healing Newsletter from October 2001, Vol. 11, No. 10 he says the following. “The fact that statins deplete CoQ10 should be common knowledge to manufacturers of these drugs. After all, Merck & Co. holds a patent on a combination product containing Mevacor and CoQ10 for the avoidance of myopathy…as well as the amelioration of myopathy.” Myopathy is a disease of the muscles where muscle fibers do not function properly leading to chronic muscle pain and weakness. Dr. Whitaker goes on to say, “Merck never exercised the patent, and more disturbingly, does not educate doctors or patients that CoQ10 should be taken along with the drug to avoid these potential side effects.”

No one knows better than you or I how our bodies feel and function. I do not need a doctor to tell me I am sick when I can feel it myself and I do not need a drug company to tell me their drugs can help when I know there are safer and better options. Mother Nature has provided so many options!

Everyday in addition to a daily multiple vitamin, mineral and antioxidant supplement I always take 200-400 mg of Ubiquinol CoQ10, 1,000-5,000 IU of vitamin D3, 100-300 mg of Alpha Lipoic Acid and 2-3 grams of Omega-3 Essential Fatty Acids from either Flaxseed Oil or Fish Oil, depending on which one is on sale at the time I make a purchase. I haven’t taken a prescription drug in over 25 years and I have beaten cancer naturally, got rid of my high blood pressure naturally, avoid the flu naturally, and I look and feel younger than 50 years old. The natural approach to wellness is AWESOME! Mother Nature is one smart woman!
