Most tattoos are done without any problems, but there is still a possible risk of tattoos that could result in an outcome that you won't be happy with. It is because of the fact that the risk of tattoos is so small that it can sometimes be overlooked. But it shouldn't be. The biggest concern with getting tattoos and risks is when the tattoo artist uses unsanitary equipment. Using tattoo equipment that is not cleaned properly has a high potential to spread disease. Skin infections can also occur when dirty equipment or if you don't care for you new tattoo properly.
If your tattoo starts to get excessively red you will need to visit a doctor to find out if it is infected or not. If you can catch the infection fast enough you can treat it with some medication but if you wait to long you could end up in the hospital for a while if it gets too bad. Another risk of tattoos that you need to worry about is if you ever want to get your tattoo removed you will have to see a doctor again because the only way to fully get rid of a tattoo is through surgery. And with surgery that are always risks.
If you decide that you want your tattoo removed, the surgery could either be an out- patient or it might require a minor hospital stay. It all depends on what the doctor thinks the risks of infection will be and your overall health. Tattoo removal is certainly a risk involved with tattoos. If you have complications during surgery or are allergic to the medication you could end up in the hospital longer that you planned.
Another risk of tattoos is not that of health but one of appearance. If you get your tattoo done by someone that doesn't have very much experience then you could end up with a tattoo design that just doesn't look right and you will regret for the rest of you life, unless you get it removed. But also with tattoo removal if the doctor that removes your tattoo doesn't have much experience with removing tattoos you could end up with a scar replacing the tattoo.
Just like every decision you make in your life, there are pros and cons. If you want to get a tattoo take the time to think about what tattoo design you want, tattoo placement, and will you be OK with the tattoo in the future. If you are getting a tattoo make sure that you are getting it because it is what you want and not because it is what someone else wants you to do. It is your body and you are the one that will have to take the risk of tattoos, not them.
Great article! Tattoos are so trendy these days I bet there is a huge increase in infections and people wanting them removed.
