Divorcing Coffee; Why And How

For a long time, people have been in an affair with coffee. There was nothing that could separate them from coffee. It was the start of every new day. It seemed to boost energy, supposedly increase productivity and activity. One cannot do without their daily dose of this drug. It is more apparent than sunlight that drinking coffee is not just a habit but an addiction. Not to say, that it is a bad drink. It is in fact a great one. However, like the old saying goes, too much of anything is not good. So, that’s how the transition began from Coffee to Tea or the Chai and that slowly evolved to milk tea latte, masala tea latte and many other flavours of Chai latte.

The journey of shift from coffee to tea:

And, a journey began- a journey of shift from coffee to tea. Tea and coffee, some say have different levels of the harmful caffeine. And many have chosen to break habits harmful to them by making this shift. There are more reasons why coffee is starting to be less preferred and how this transition occurs.

Weighing the pros and cons

On the outset it seems that the benefits of tea outweigh that of coffee.

1. The myth holds that tea was created in search of medicine. Tea has several medicinal properties which better the health of a person than coffee. It has been used by the Chinese and Indians for thousands of years as a healing potion.

2. Some argue that the caffeine levels of both tea and coffee are the same. However, the effect of the tea caffeine is far mellower than that of coffee. Coffee can boost energy in minutes and drop them as fast as well. Tea is a more long lasting stimulant than coffee.

3. Studies have shown that a person intakes more water when drinking tea than coffee as tea contains more water than its counterpart. A well hydrated body is important for sound health.

4. Antioxidants keep the body fresh and alive. Today, there are salons that offer anti oxidation treatments for the body. It can be easily achieved with a cup of tea and its far cheaper too.

5. Constant and addicted coffee drinkers suffer discolouration of teeth over a period of time. This is avoided when one shifts to tea.

6. Moreover, with the popularity of green tea soaring, it is a better option for those who want to lose weight and be fit. It is a healthier lifestyle.

7. Anxiety and tremors are documented effects of coffee. Whereas, tea is said to increase immunity of the body against flu and other contagious situations.

The process

Any coffee-lover will not find it easy to transition to tea over night. Studies have shown that it is a step by step process over a period of time. Most coffee addicts who take for example, three cups of coffee a day can shift to two cups of coffee and one cup of tea. Small steps can make a big difference. There are of course others who have aggressively shifted to the healthier beverage by simply replacing a bad habit with a good one.

Like adding your savor to your buds, even tea has evolved to different styles and flavours throughout the world depending upon ethnicity and taste of people. Whatever be it, pick a flavour of Chai or Chai latte or masala tea latte and start from there.
