Tea Time And Memories

When I see a Weeping Willow, I think of my mother, who use to sit under a huge Weeping Willow tree in our garden and enjoy her tea.

She loved her tea, tea time at our house was any time. If you were happy, you had tea ,if you were sad you had tea, in fact you had tea for everything that went wrong or right. I must say I do love my tea.

As the years have gone by it amazes me to see how many different ways people make tea. Everyone believes their way is the best. Some people believe that you put the tea leaves in first and then the boiling water, others the boiling water and then the tea leaves. Some put milk in first and then pour the tea. others pour the tea frist then the milk. I think it up to you on how you drink your tea.

Never! and my mother was adamant about this, make tea in an aluminium tea-pot, "the taste goes to pot", is what she use to say.She only used a china pot with a bamboo strainer.

In the summer she used to make iced tea for refreshment on a long hot days. How I miss those summer days, and the love and warmth that use to radiate from my mother. When she passed away we never had tea under the Weeping willow again. The house was sold to a young couple, who had the tree cut down. What a sad end to a beautiful tree.

I did some research to see if I could find interesting ceremony's about tea. I found that the Japanese were one of the first country's to use tea in a ceremony.

The Japanese have a tea ceremony, called Chanoyu and this ceremony has elevated tea and the sharing of it to the level of an art form. The Zen Buddhist monks developed it .Monks were the earliest tea drinkers in china. They drank tea to help them stay awake, during their long meditations .That is how tea became associated with the spiritual aspects of their lives. The religion way of tea was shaped by the tea master, Sen No Rikyu. The four elements of his ceremony were. Harmony, purity, tranquilty and respect.

Harmony: Living with in the order and harmony of the universe.

Purity: Pure as the rays of the sun.

Tranquilty: Peace in body and soul.

Respect: Respect for the beauty of the utensils is carried to the end of the ceremony.

What a great way to celebrate the magical beverage called tea.
