I love cartoons since I was a little boy. I still remember those old cartoons, Superman and Popeye. Every Saturday morning I would sit in front of the television for couple of hours.
Many years has passed and I still love cartoons. Recently I found myself watching Japanese anime. My son loves them too. There is a website called Crunchyroll where you can watch these anime for free.
Are they good for our children?
To answer this question. I will give you an example. Recently, I have just finished one Japanese anime called "Sword Art Online". The story is about a 16 year old boy (Kirito) whose spirit is trapped in an online game, together with another 10,000 other gamers. They are unable to leave the game and log out, unless they could beat the final monster boss at the final level - level 100. If their avatar die in the game, their brain will be electrocuted by the game console they wear on their head. Hence they will die virtually.
The story went on showing how Kirito was able to advance in level in the game. How he help other people in need, how he make friends and also how he found love with a girl called Asuna. Kirito is a very loving person and sensitive to other people's need. He is brave, smart and he cares for others. I think he is a very good role-model for our children.
Japanese are very kind and friendly people. Japan is one of the few countries with the lowest crime rate together with Cyprus, Denmark and Iceland. I have been to Japan myself and I found the Japanese people are very friendly in general. It is very safe to go out at night in down town Tokyo. It is because they are polite and they have a very good culture, kind and they respect one another.
No surprise the animes they product reflects who they are. The animes they produce are fantastic and with unbelievable imagination. Their imagination is out of this world. Sword Art Online is one of my favourite.
What our children could learn from these anime are:
- imagination
- good nature
- sensitivity
- respect one another
- bravery and courage
- friendships
"Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand." - Albert Einstein
Isn't it great that if our children could learn to have imagination while watching these animes. Also they could learn and acquire all these good character traits.
I myself have watched many of these animes and I could tell you that most of them are similar to this one I mentioned here. I highly recommend you watch it together with your children, and you could explain to them everything that they do not understand. I am sure you will enjoy it as well.
So the answer to the question - Is Japanese anime good for our children?
Japanese animes are good for our children.

Thanks for your comment. I will go and check out these animes. Good stuff.
You can watch anime on the internet. I know the world is changing, maybe for the worst. When I was little, they do have cartoons with honourable characters, like Superman and Batman.
I haven't seen much anime, but none of the shows playing in America right now have much of the qualities you described. None of the American characters have honorable qualities, they rarely act brave or courageous, if ever. Your article makes me wish Sword Art Online played on our television so my little brothers and sisters would watch it.
