EFT or Emotional Freedom technique is a technique that allows you to release emotions by tapping on the meridians points used in acupuncture. The great thing about EFT is that works, and that it is easy to learn and cost effective. The only requirement to get results is that you practice it.
This article will explain the process of Emotional Freedom Technique. The first thing you need to decide is what you will be releasing. You can release any emotional or physical pain or problem. Some examples are weight problems, physical pain like back pain or other pain, anxiety, any money related challenge.
So after deciding what you will be releasing you will start the tapping with an affirmation. Let’s consider the example of being overweight. So now you need to come up with a short phrase that would remind you of the problem you have. In this case it would be “I am overweight”.
Next step would be to asses that statement, from 0 to 10. The value 0 means that is not a problem for you, whilst 10 means that is a huge deal. Do not spend hours to asses it. Think for a second about it and evaluate the feelings that “I am overweight” generates in you.
Once you have assessed it then you need to start tapping. You will tap on the meridians whilst repeating certain phrases. The first affirmation needs to be repeated 3 times whilst tapping on the karate chop point. The karate chop point is on the pinky side of your hand. Tap there whilst you repeat three times this statement “Even though I have some extra weight, I deeply and profoundly accept myself” You can change the statement but keep the structure “Even though I have this problem, I deeply and profoundly accept myself”
After the third repetition you will tap through other meridian points but affirming other statements. The easiest way is to affirm the reminder phrase: “I am overweight”, but if you want, you can also vary the reminder statement with the feelings that come to you. You could change it to say ‘I cannot stop eating”, “food tempts me”, “I am 70 kilos”, or whatever statement that may resonate with you. You will need to tap in the rest of the points twice. So you will do the first round of tapping for each point, and then you will complete a second round.
Once you finish the second round is time to assess your feelings about the first statement “I am overweight”. The assessment may be 0 now, but if not you need to repeat the tapping. Even if it is not zero, something else could come to your mind stronger than the fact of being overweight. For example you could say “I do not have energy”. So choose whatever challenge comes to you in your mind. Do not over think it.
With regards to the tapping points many Emotional Freedom Technique practitioners use different points. Some use more and some use less.
The points are mainly on the face and upper torso. The second point to tap is on the highbrow over the inner point of the eye. The next point is directly on the outer area of the eye, directly underneath the eye, then underneath the nose, then on the chin, and on the collarbone and then in your armpit.
So remember after every second round of tapping asses your feelings and if needed be change what you are tapping on,
This is an easy technique, that once leaned can be applied anytime, anywhere, at no extra cost. You can do it whilst working, driving, watching TV or even a mini session before going into a business meeting.
Remember you can apply it to any obstacle in life. You could use emotional freedom technique to attract money, husband, being more patient with your children or prepare for a job interview.
The added benefit of tapping is that you can do it whenever you feel like, when driving, watching TV or just before going to a meeting. With practice you will get good, and no one will realize what you are doing, so you should not fear being seen by others. .
