There are many articles and videos about courage and conquering fear, but this time I'll be teaching you "How to be Afraid" like a pro. Most people believe that fear is a disadvantage; that it is the enemy, but I'm hear to let you know that if you do it right, it can be your best friend. Now a lot of you might be surprised by what I've just said, but the fact is we can never defeat fear, we'll always be afraid of something, even if it's fear itself. So I say why fight the inevitable, embrace it.
But as bad as fear might seem, it's vital to our existence; it's prevents us from doing dangerous things (sometimes) like petting a wild lion or something. The great minds of Psychology Today writes that " Fear can be your friend in just the right doses, but too much of it can kill you." Well that's typical, I mean too much of anything can kill you, even water. With these few steps you will learn how to make the best of your fears.
The first step in this life changing process is to scare yourself. Find out what makes you want shiver, makes you want to stay in bed all day, what paralyses you, makes you sweat a river, and think about it. This might be harder for some of you than others, after spending hours reading, watching and practicing all those motivational/inspirational material. But I'm sure this won't be easy nor pleasant for anyone. An important thing to do is not to allow your fear to overcome you, it is to be the Eve to your Adam.
The second and final step, yes there are only two steps, is the hardest, and it is stop thinking and "DO IT". Stop thinking and go. This is where you put fear aside and go for it. Now I'm not saying if you're afraid of getting shot, you should go and get yourself shot, that's just crazy. But if you're afraid of heights, why not go bungee jumping or just ride in a glass elevator or something; go talk to that girl you've been dying to say hi to. Just do it.
Never the less, I'm not going to pretend that I've mastered this technique because I haven't. One thing I can say is that it works and I sure feel great afterwards. Also a word of caution, this isn't some magic fix, it takes a while and a few goes but you get used to it. And don't worry about failing, that's a basic part of the process, I didn't succeed at the first go, nor the second but I kept going, and that my friend is of great importance, always keep going, never quit. After all, you only fail when you stop trying and remember " For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind."
