Professional Development With Technology

The world is literally at our fingertips with any device connected to a network and this leads to more responsibility or the lack thereof. We can accomplish things in seconds which took a commute to the location and waiting in line for possible hours, just five years ago. That's how long it's taken for the government agencies to reduce the red tape and see technology as a vehicle for their various departments in government. Now, we can not only accomplish a task in seconds, but do multiple tasks - hopefully not while driving. Then again, our need for driving to locations is even greatly reduced. What does that do beside get things done? It makes us either lazy, or more responsible. Professional development with technology is almost unavoidable.

Required Technology

In school, the use of the Internet is required and even though phones aren't allowed for use, the students can still have them. Thousands of students with mini-computers on their person while in school and college. It can be good or bad, and I think the way the child is parented has a big part in abiding by school policies. The bigger picture is what we do with the available devices we're likely to purchase? There are so many options in the phones; it's literally similar to having an entire briefcase in the palm of your hand. Daily planner and all, so with technology being at our side 24/7, linking us to multiple networks, is it worthwhile to take an hour and program your phone for daily tasks, even using the voice recorder if it's available.

Notes to Self

The ability to capture your greatest ideas is powerful because once you record a few items, a pattern begins to develop and when you sit down to make a huge decision on a big purchase or buying a home, maybe choosing a college; if you have the time to review what you've recorded in the last 7-14 days, you'll have a refined amount of time making that decision because "Ah Hah" usually happens after reviewing past notes to self.

This doesn't take much extra time, and building your professional development skills are certain to follow. Many benefits like reduced stress, and piece of mind are the continuing results because it happens over and over - until you are whizzing through each day gaining such positive habits that those around you notice your "change" and just have to know how it's all "so easy" for you! These are the small things you can do as you embrace the ever-present technology replacing mundane tasks so that in the near future you can snap your fingers and the computer turns on, the stereo turns on, coffee is started, and a hungry child in Africa gets fed from your donations sent electronically.!

Any thoughts or suggestions on how we can use technology as an ally in professional development are certainly welcome!
